Well the month ended badly as we had to have our beloved Ozzie put to sleep. This means an unexpected bill of over £300, and a spend today on a gift and card for the dog sitter to say thank you.

It changes everything. Budgets, my plans for going back to work, exercise, holidays. Going to have a rethink on Monday when I'm a bit calmer.

But we did go for 2 walks along our normal route today as it was glorious weather. Sod's law as I've been walking him in the pouring rain all week.

I bought 2 weeks worth of food for him on Thursday. We donated it and all his bits to the Dogs Trust today, so I'm going to count that for this month I think.

Tomorrow should be a NSD. I'm racing in the morning and we have guests for the afternoon - I've already done the cooking etc for that. So as long as I resist the running shop at Glasgow Green I will be fine.

    Good luck turtles/ferrets.

So so sorry for your loss.
I lost my pooch last month and it still hurts (although the pain gets easier to manage).
There are no words I can say to make it better, but I'm thinking of you.

So sorry to hear your news. Sending lots of hugs. Excellent work on walking (must be full of memories), donating the food and your preparations for the weekend.

'Nothing else acheived'. You are being too hard on yourself. You are ill. You are staying in bed to look after yourself instead of making things worse. You didn't spend money and you were productive. Win all round. Do a very gentle ferret Victory dance - use your fingers and do a puppet ferret.

Well we did the car boot sale and made £75 - spent about £10 on tea, bacon sarnie x 2 and a cake. Pointless! Def not an NSD. Popped to shops to look at curtains for house, nothing there but went to garage to buy logs as house cold and got chocolate too! Big delivery of logs tomorrow so can count this weekend out of NSD. Eating badly! But enjoying it! Walked dog but not much else. Must try harder!

You made some money and got out in the fresh air. I would have counted the bacon sarnie etc as a cost against the boot sale profit. Log delivery is pro-active and very important for the coming season. You made a start on exercise and are enjoying yourself. Do your Victory Dance. Do three.

Welcome to all new and returning turtles. Obviously some of you have had a difficult time recently and in some cases for longer. Ccl I hope the tests give you some answers.

Lots of good plans for the month and wonderful efforts straight off the blocks. Take some credit for what you have achieved. Do a victory dance, all of you. It takes a while for turtle rules to fall into place, just keep doing what you can and working on the others - some things become automatic after a while.

    My plans for the month
    Budgets
Food £60, tight but I want to get to my target of £50 per month by December (may need to adjust when DS1's gf and the chinchillas join us next month). I have a week's worth of meals in the freezer and plan on having fish (white/ salmon/ tuna) and mixed veg as my default meal when I can't think what to do. Simple, healthy and mood boosting. Need to start batch cooking once the last few 'old' things are out of the freezer.

Transport £30. Hope it will be less but didn't have my planned 'staycation' (3 museum/ gallery visits plus a day trip or two) so will keep carrying the money for a one week bus ticket forward until I make it happen.

Extra £20. Nothing specific for this month - I have a list of purchases I planned to make once I was debt free. Need a shelf bracket.

Money to pay the roofer (£450) is already set aside.

Sleep I am getting enough sleep, I think. However my sleep pattern is haywire, I am finding it much easier to sleep in the daytime than at night (let's face it, I just want to hibernate). I need to try getting to a pattern that fits in with real life a little more while still listening to my body (it overrules me anyway, I can doze off anytime).

Money I am where I want to be - DS2 paid back the money he borrowed before going to his friend's wedding in the USA (he was paid the day after he left and was worried about using his card etc) and I reminded DS3 that he had kept back some of his 'rent' money for buying his bed and then I paid for it - may let him use some for a new quilt next month when gf moves in (planned purchase as we have been using an assortment of tatty old quilts, I replaced mine earlier in the year). Need to raise more income as I want to make up the roofer expenditure before the year end. My budget balances atm but I need to cover DS3's contribution for when he leaves - not an immediate worry in the current economic climate hence gf moving in with us.

    Today
DS1 collected his parcels so large couch is now available for sitting on. All the boxes and paper packaging are in the recycling bin and I am steadily adding to my paper sack as I work my way through various piles of paperwork.Small clear spaces are appearing.

Washing has been done, bathroom has been wiped and I have collected handfuls of weeds from the paving and walls in the back garden and added them to the green bin..

Severe lurching dizziness is back (either a reaction to the popcorn I had at cinema club last night or due to the increased dosage of anti-depressants possibly in combination with my other medication). Was afraid to walk downstairs or get in the bath until lunchtime so quite pleased with how much got done in the end.

A visit to the library necessitated several pauses to hold onto rails/ posts and a sit down whilst choosing books (just a top up) so I haven't ventured further afield. However I did sit in the yard to soak up the gentle sunshine. A late afternoon nap made me feel betetr so more tasks ticked off. No money spent (20p photocopying at library but it's mum's paperwork so will get it back).

Also did Victory Dance between the bedroom and bathroom and back.

Today I am grateful for the beautiful sunshine, the changing colours of the trees and for getting things done.
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.

Big hugs for both ljaneyr and FurryBeast Oz xx :grouphug:

First day of Oct and I have spent at Ald1 (just under £30) - will need another spend tomorrow at Azda for those items not sold in Ald1. Shouldn't be too bad a spend though :)

Posted 2 fleabay parcels today. Also posted a parcel to DD at uni - her wireless printer won't work with the uni's wireless so have posted her a cable (which we already had), some chocolate, an external dvd player for her laptop (given to us for free by a friend :T) and GoT box set - oh, and more socks! (from her drawers) - Used the free stamps received from RM surveys :D Am also awaiting payment for 1 item sold yesterday.

Listed about a dozen more items on fleabay today, including some job lots just to (hopefully) get rid of things. They're not suitable for CS (specialist bits n pieces) and would be junked, so fleabay for a small price is a better alternative.

Exercise - it has been heavy rain virtually all day here - and very heavy hailstones at one point (they were coming down the chimney and landing on the hearth!) - no walking done :( I could have gone on cross trainer, I suppose - I spent a lot of time sat down listing the items for sale. Step count today = poor. I'd like to average 10K a day over the month.

Eating/ lunches - today OH had tinned soup (last one from a 4 pack bought 2 years ago) and I had HM currilli from last week. Dinner was nachos - not healthy, but we had a smaller portion than we usually have.

NSDs - will aim for 15, today was not one as I did an @sda order which will be delivered tomorrow. Definitely worth the £3 delivery charge for someone else to lug toilet rolls, tins, juice, etc up all my stairs ;)
Extra cash - Did a split shift for 2nd job today and have another tomorrow so that's £140ish extra cash :D
Learn something new - not sure if this counts but plan to try new classes at the gym instead of just kettlebells
Food budget - £150 for me and OH
Lunch to work - do this every day anyway, lunch is provided at work but there are very rarely gluten free options
Travel - heading home next week, half my travel is already booked but will need another £30 to cover the rest. I walk to work every day but will budget another £20 for the month for travelling in between flats
Healthy eating - really could do better with this, I very rarely manage to hit 5 portions of fruit and veg a day and I eat far too chocolate :o
Food bank - will add 3 items to the food bank collection next time I'm at the supermarket
Exercise - I walk to work every day and aim to go to the gym three times a week. Also see learn something new
Weekly challenge - added cold and flu tablets, tissues and cough mixture to the @sda order
Ferret victory dance - earning extra money today, not getting caught out in the rain and having a yummy lasagne which I batch cooked last week.
    Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500  1.8.25 - £106,362.86
    Mortgage overpayment savings - £46.47/£50
Mortgage overpayments so far - £625.98
  • Morning all :coffee:
So sorry to hear about Ozzie - so heartbreaking. Hope that you are being kind to yourself FBO. They are family and it's hard to move on when they're gone.
Raph - hope that you're feeling better this morning.
Yesterday wasn't a nsd for me, it was 'big shop' day. £98 for us in Mr T and £106 for the cats on Z00plus. Also topped up a couple of bits in £land, BM and Icyland. Really hoping to get the food budget back under control this month so fingers crossed.
Today should be a nsd. I'm feeling very ropey indeed. I was completely wiped after being out all afternoon yesterday and I'm still snotty this morning. It's like a whole new level of tired that I've never experienced. Likely my only outdoor venture today will be hanging the washing out but I'm not going to feel bad about that while I'm unwell.
