How would you feel if you were 'found out'?

Just a random thought that came into my head this morning, after talking to MIL last night. She reads the main site all the time (she was the one who told me about Martin) but very rarely comes into the forums, unless its a discussion thread linked from the email.... I was certain that she read the forums, and hence knew how much debt we were in (and all the things I have said about her son  ).... So that got me thinking...
How would I feel if someone I knew ventured onto the forums and discovered me here?? My username is my name, and the avatar is my son, so it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out!
I don't think I would mind MIL reading my posts, and my Mum already knows about my debts, so it wouldn't bother me at all if she found me..... Little Sis would also be fine, but I don't think I'd like my Dad to see (he would probs be dissappointed that I had debts, and annoyed that I didn't ask him for help maybe
). Whilst these posts are on a public forum, I find it quite personal - I know that's odd, and I can't really describe what exactly I mean.... It's like its 'my' thing, like OH has snooker matches... I don't know!
So after that ramble, I'll ask the question...... How would you feel if you were discovered on here by a friend/family member, and they figured out who you were???

Well apparently one of our close friends is a lurker on my diary
But to be honest it doesn't bother me because I'm always totally open and honest.

It's always best to be wary about posting anything on the internet. I suppose any of my friends and relations could identify me by the contents of my posts, but not by my name here. Maybe they post here too!0

id be a bit embarassed - most ppl think im a geek for taking an interest in my finances like i do and also even though i post personal things on here I like to think I have a bit of anonymity as im not talking to people that know me - for some reason I dont feel judged by you guys i know i would be by ppl that know me. the scariest thing happened to me the other day - i posted my details advertising my aerobics services on a website and this psycho used my name in google to get my mobile number to call me up and ask me if i wanted spare keys to a car i bought from him 6 years ago - scary!Proud to be dealing with my debts!DFW Nerd No. 634 LBM: 3rd time - Dec2008 I NEED TO BEAT IT THIS TIME!Total Loan Debt = £[strike]13,737.80[/strike] 13,042.44, Total Non-loan Debt = £[strike]5,289.33[/strike] 4,704.45 - Total= [strike]19,027.13[/strike] 17,746.89 FEB 09Freelance earnings - Feb 09 = £260 so far Make £30 a day in Feb - £260.40 of £840 5 NSD in Feb 09 - 1 of 50

Apart from a few gruesome childbirth details and a couple of rants about family members when they have been unsupportive, there's pretty much nothing on here that people don't already know about me, so it wouldn't bother me all that much. Although Snaggles isn't really my name, a lot of people know my real name, and the names of my husband and children, so it would be obvious who I was if anyone that knew me read my posts.

Most people don't use their real name on forums for that reason.
Plenty of people know exactly who I am on the forums I frequent but an aquaintance of work collegue wouldn't know from my user name. For me that strikes the right balance I would NEVER use a surname as an internet ID especially here where I could be talking about finances or where I hold bank accounts etc if someone recognised me they could very well put together enough info from what they knew of me personally plus the stuff here to commit fraud or ID theft.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I would be embarressed myself. I like the anonimity of it on here and am carefull not to give to much away that would give away my identity. That and the fact i look like Mel Gibson:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: . I wish

There was something a bit like this on click online .Telling people to be carefull listing to much on Networking sites ...it seems some companies are using these to re-check your details and also getting a better view of what kind of a character you are ..
I don't think my posts would bring me down if they were found by any one who knows me ....On a much older forum I used to be on, I did mention my drug taking youth (and how much I enjoyed it)..I assume that has now just fallen off the edge of the internet .0 -
as far as people finding about my debts all i would say is " yes i made a mistake and things went wrong but at least im doign something about it and am learning from my mistake and paying it all back" also had to tell work recently which wasnt fun but they agree with me in the sense of at least im trying to do domething about it, and its had no invovlment in my job whats so ever im professional liek that, its my personnal life and stays out of work.
i dont feel io ever say anything i should feel ashamed to have said either0 -
I don't particularly care, I'm more financially savvy than most of my friends anyway.
My mum would be the same, my dad however would flip but hey-ho better to be sorting it than bankrupt. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
I don't know how I'd feel
I know a friend of mine knows about this site (well... I told him about it  ) and in a recent discussion about money we both quoted the same MSE page :rotfl: to back up our points  . I haven't got a clue if he reads the forums or not
but I guess I don't really have anything to hide either way so it doesn't really matter! Most of the people around me know what I'm like anyway!!
... If he does venture into the forums I'd love to know what his username is tho... :rotfl: not got a clue...
