Went into the back of a BMW, how do I deal with this?

K reg carlton.
Small crack in bumper
£700!
and that was 2004!0 -
So to summarise:-
You ran in to the back of someone.
You then offered to pay.
You expect the guy to be decent with you and not put it through his insurance.
But refused to admit liability in writing.
You expect the job to be £20.
I would have lost patience with you long ago and would have informed my insurer as soon as you refused to admit fault in writing.
I'm sure the advice is to never admit liability either verbally or in writing at the scene of an accident as it could have later adverse insurance implications.0 -
Bit of a rub with G3 should take out the scratch. LOL
Probably will be a grand though. What a waste of money that could be put to something useful instead. People are too precious about their cars and the cars break too easily these days.
That's to prevent the people inside them breaking too easily.0 -
So you won't admit liability at the scene in writing for him but at the same time you also want to make sure he sorts it out without insurance? I take it you didn't ask him for a to confirm this in writing?
You can't have something both ways.
Either admit liability in writing and get them to sign a disclaimer saying they won't claim on their insurance and the matter is settled in full or do the now sensible thing and go through the insurance policy that you are paying/paid for anyway.
Never mind damage just the other side of the bumper, you could have also kinked the boot floor!
I'd make sure you also attend the repair assessment with the BMW driver OP so you can hear for yourself what the cost is. Not through word of mouth.
Finally, is there any witnesses or cameras covering the accident?0 -
£20 is for stamps for the letters that he returns for his whiplash claims. Bank account at the ready0

I think expensive paintwork is a liability on a car as it is so easy to damage. I understand people choosing it in the showroom and expecting it to be right after an accident but most cars are crushed after 10-15 years. How many cars are written off after paintwork costs are added to insurance claims. If paintwork was cheaper to repair insurance would be cheaper. The last repair to my 5 series was a small scuff to the back bumper. It was £2.5k as they had to respray upto the rear doors to get the colour match. The guy who hit it thought it would be a couple of hundred at most.0 -

Not if they reverse into you.
(This actually happened to me - fortunately there were witnesses and also CCTV). 0 -

My reversing camera stopped working on our IX35 - I phoned Hyundai and they told me that it would cost me £90 for them to tell me that the reversing camera was broken....so that was 90 down the drain in an instant.
To actually replace the camera cost me £700
it broke 1 month after the 5 year warranty ran out. Great stuff!
Contact Insurance...let them sort it out.0 -
Just notify your insurers now, you dont seem to know how the law, insurance or repairing cars and injury claims work these days.0
