Went into the back of a BMW, how do I deal with this?

How fast were you going exactly, OP? By the sound of it you must have been going reasonably fast since you "rammed" into the back. The thing with modern plastic bumpers is that they deflect and then spring back hiding damage to the underneath of the vehicle. Its entirely possible the structure of the vehicle has been bent in which case you'll definitely be looking at a 4-figure bill. Even if its just the bumper that has been damaged the repair could run into the high hundreds.
Sounds like you'd be best off going through your insurance.0 -
I was being serious and it's not got anything to do with the good old days.
Bumpers don't need to be colour matched. If everyone had black or white or grey bumpers that came in the same colour from the factory they wouldn't need matching. The whole point of the bumper is to protect the rest of the car. If you damage someone's bumper you would pay £100 or £200 for a new one to be fitted.
All our insurance premiums would go down and people would stop caring about having paint matched bumpers.0 -

I'm not sure about that idea, the last time the government picked a car for the population we ended up with this:0 -

That wouldnt work either as the only statsic the insurers would have is 100% of all accidents happen in a Ford Focus for example, so that car would be group 50+.....as we all know that just because not many young drivers crash a 1992 Volvo 740 estate 2.3 turbo it must be a lower group than a 1 litre Toyota Yaris. So please do not think that far outside the box.0 -
When people come up with figures of £2,000 and such like to replace a bumper I wonder how much of that was for a hire car and/or accident management company fees ? Quite a large proportion I'd guess0

The £2172 bill for my car was for the repair only. Car was in for 5 weeks due to unavailability of a part, so I had a Kia sorrento from Enterprise that was billed at another £2k+. never understood why my ins. co. (Saga) told me to proceed with repairs when they knew I had paid £1900 for the car a couple of years earlier, car was 10 years old when I bought it.0 -
The guy has decided to go with a local spray shop and it's £330. I am going tomorrow to pay for it and get the receipt in my name for his car. My savvy friend said it's worth doing this because if we go through insurance my premiums will go up, I will lose my no claims and it's a lot of hassle with all the forms. Sound like a good idea?0
