On a quick inspection after an unattended car rolled into my Saab a few years ago, it had moderately damaged my bumper. Final repair bill £2172!

Bit of a rub with G3 should take out the scratch.

Probably will be a grand though. What a waste of money that could be put to something useful instead. People are too precious about their cars and the cars break too easily these days.

Just wait until he gets his phone call about the money set aside for his injury.

    So to summarise:-

You ran in to the back of someone.
    You then offered to pay.
You expect the guy to be decent with you and not put it through his insurance.
But refused to admit liability in writing.
You expect the job to be £20.

I would have lost patience with you long ago and would have informed my insurer as soon as you refused to admit fault in writing.

I'd a guy ran into the back of a 5 series of mine some years ago. I'm ex motor trade and it looked like a few hundred at most, even to me.

    £2,750 later.....

    Lease hire

I wouldn't even consider dealing under the table. Even if minor damage the guy won't settle with a polish, he'll want a proper job with a guarantee so he isn't hit himself when handing it back.

    Best to use insurers imo

And no, hitting the back of somebody isn't always your fault - just in this case and about 99% other cases it just happens to be

    G3 does not perform miracles.

As for being precious does that mean I can cause damage to your car and you don't mind that it will cost you dearly when the time comes to change it?

And you'd be happy to take the £20 if this was your BMW?

    I think not.
  • This place is getting to be a comedy venue.

Would fully expect two more zeros on the back of the £20 estimate.

£20 won't even pay for a guy to look at it, shake his head, take a sharp intake of breath and say "that looks expensive mate".

Here's the number of parts that make up a typical 3 series rear bumper, as an example.

If you "rammed it" as you state, then although there might be superficial paint damage to the bumper itself, there could well be plenty of damage that you wont see. Broken bumper brackets, damage to the bumper reinforcement, damage to the rear PDCs etc.

It's easy to see how a such an impact can easily escalate into thousands, and that can be for any manufacturer not just the likes of BMW etc.

Also, for the record, the advice from insurers is that you never admit liability at the scene and definitely never put anything in writing to the TP.
