Yes, they're in the chavtastic section, right along with the black lace up pump school shoes.

A chance for MSE subscribers to get their entry in a dictionary, as there appears to be no word for obsession with (school) footwear.
  • How are they chavy and how are pumps chavy ?

They may, for the first few days, look relatively "smart". But within two weeks they become shabby and obviously cheap. The boots offer no support and encourage scuffing instead of walking properly. Canvas pumps are intended for indoor wear and will not keep out the weather. Most good schools do not consider them to be of uniform quality. By all means buy them now - but the purchase of these definitely "chavvy" items only indicate that you ha e bought cheap unsuitable let for every day footwear and will have to buy at least another three pairs before winter ends.

Respect your feet now (12) they will respect you when you are older.

    Beleive me, it works....

School shoes, with proper support is the way to go.

Might I suggest patent, thigh-high stripper boots.

Patent offers better protection from water/snow and being thigh-high they will keep her legs warm when worn with a skirt only slightly larger than a belt. They will also make her very popular with the boys (and pervy teachers).
  • I've tried buying her proper school shoes she just refuses to wear them

She's 12. You're her mother. Giving in is the easy option for you and long term problems for her. Buy her proper school shoes and if she doesn't wear them then that's tough. She's going to have some very sore feet if she has to go without shoes!

The word you need to learn is 'no'.
