    That's just your opinion.
    My opinion is the opposite.
I wore 'proper' shirts, pleated skirt, tie and blazer. And a beret.
    It was a grammar school.

And proper school shoes'. Anyone turning up in plimsolls would have been sent home.

You need to teach your children that what you say goes.
And that means if you buy her proper school shoes, then she wears them - whether she likes it or not.

How sad. If as the OP suggests, "blazers and ties are unnecessary", what will happen when these school children end up in the workplace? When the OP goes to the bank, do the staff wear polo shirts and Ugg boots?
IMHO one part of the wearing of a smart school uniform is to show youngsters that in certain positions, you are expected to dress smartly, apart from the sense of shared identity. As a teacher (p/t just about to go to work!), if any student of mine turned up in Ugg-style boots, I would ask them to wear correct footwear. Does the OP not realise that failing to provide appropriate footwear is a form of neglect?
I'm sorry but I have to disagree with your post. I know the norm is to laud the uniform impositions nowadays but I honestly don't see the point in asking children to behave like they were in a workplace. They are children. It bemuses me that schools say everybody should conform and share an identity yet then tell the children to be themselves and be an individual when they are applying to college or work. Mixed messaging at it's best.
I'm all for having appropriate footwear but my local high school used to disallow boots even in the middle of winter. What difference does it make to your learning whether you wear boots or shoes? Add the fact that the school grounds flooded badly every winter and children would have to wade through deep puddles to get to class and spend the day with wet feet was just utter madness.
I recall teachers would regularly strictly monitor uniform but couldn't seem to control bullying. School policy was for no dyed hair and a strict uniform but teachers would turn up with multicoloured hair and looking like they had slept in their very casual clothes. When has a school applied a uniform policy to teachers? Why not? Surely if they feel so strongly about uniform they should lead by example?

I have to say that if the employee does their job well I wouldn't care if they wore clown clothes. Strict dress code is all well and good but I've seen many bank employees with smart suits on that don't fit well or the girls have tacky nail varnish on. That doesn't make think they are great professionals, just that they are playing dress up for the job that they have.
I see many employees in shops that wear polo shirts and I have never doubted their ability to do the job because of the clothes they have on.

For junior school, yes. For senior school, no. The high-aspirational schools insist on a more formal uniform in order to instil self-esteem, as well as the concept of high attainment.

Unless you want your daughter to achieve the dizzy heights of scuffing a around the local shopping mall..

Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)
