    My point exactly.

If it were my child I would far rather a pack of socks or a vest & pants from M&S than a pair of PJs from Matalans.

I know we are all different, but I would like to try & buy something I know the other person will use.

If someone bought me a nightdress from Matalans I would bin it, but if they spent the same money & got me a pair of knickers or 2 pairs of socks from M&S I would be delighted.

Wouldn't the buyer rather buy something the person would actually use, rather than something that looks "more" but (by some people) may never be used.

I know what you are saying but personally I have bought many things from Matalan and they are good quality,ie they have not fallen apart after the first wash. I don't care what the label says.
But I will say I went to M&S and was surprised how cheaper there childrens clothing seemed to be than I remember.
A Beautiful soft dressing gown was £8 (childrens) and a few years ago it probably have been at least £12.99 and more.

  • Marks and Spencer have some good offers on boxes and tins of biscuits at the moment, half price chocolates too. This morning I bought a tin of Belgian biscuits £3.99, a pink box of assorted cookies £2.99 and a box of chocolates for £2.99. There are others available on offer such as shortbread etc too.

To just touch on the Matalan V M&S comments, alot of teenagers would rather have items from Matalan as they see M&S as being middle aged and fuddy duddy.........particularly the boys.

  • Tesco have a few good deals on their wine at the minute. There were a fair few nice bottles for under fiver [usually like £7-8 with a few pounds off, or half price bottles etc.] I also picked up a couple of cd's for £3 and £4 in Asda the other day. I got a 3cd soul set for my brother... Marvin Gaye, Barry White, and someone else [name eludes me] for £3!! :)

  • This thread has got me really thinking of bargains now!!
If you are able to get to some of the discount stores, like clearance shops. I know there's a few about scattered all over. I go to an M&S one, where you can get gorgeous sterling silver rings for £5. I've bought a couple for myself, and for presents. They have jewelry and other home stuff, like picture frames, vases, and cufflinks and ties for men [under £5 this is. Naturally there's other stuff!!] The same for Next clearance shops. :)
