OBL like you my BIL works for the NHS and is chronically ill. Occupational health have made adjustment to trigger dates etc, to prevent the situation you find yourself in. I can't remember when he was last off work with a flare up, his sick leave is all due to things like colds, which knock him for six and have a long recovery time.

  • I've been wondering about you LL. I'm assuming you're now moved in to your new home . I do agree about how stressful and debilitating trying to access the needed support both financially and in other ways in sad and worrying times can be cruel and the last thing needed when trying to keep getting from day to day . You had a tough time over a long and difficult period and it shouldn't have been like that when you were trying to do right by those you loved . No wonder it took such a toll on your own health . Things need to change but sadly the so called safety net is full of holes and no longer resembles the original cradle to the grave model we grew up with .
How are you enjoying the newcomer to the family? I've no idea if you're Nanna , Grandma or any of the many variations but hopefully all is well with the family x

Thank you for your post Bailey's babe . Our local trust is pretty poor but that may be useful for OBL .

Did they manage to sort your mum's aids Prinzess? It's so isolating when they aren't working properly . I've been wondering if the craft place is still running and your mum still has a place there How are the Christmas preps coming along ?

  • Hi candygirl

I am so sorry you are struggling. I hate that feeling you get when you know it's coming which makes it a hundred times worse. I have had someone tell me I should do something to get rid of it!! As if we want these symptoms and feelings - do they not realise how hurtful and unsupportive such comments are?

I hope your doctor can help. Do you find them supportive and understanding?

Gentle hugs and good wishes from Spain
    Pauline

It's good to see you Pauline I expect it's warmer where you are than the grey , cold and windy NW coast . Dd also has a history of ptsd along with panic and severe anxiety attacks . I have to say after 20 years of many meds and pretty ineffective mh counselling often cut short too soon the holistic plan devised by our GP is working wonders ,
Mentally she's in a much better place than she's ever been in 33 years .
Having both a pain psych , counsellor , physio and an extra med added to the Propranol has made such a difference to coping with everything mentally and dealing with pain and the limitations it can impose . The new med combined with challenging the effects of the BPD has been amazing .

Are you going to be based in Spain for good now ? I know you were back here for a short break .
    Take care

  • I've been doing the Gupta programme for a few days now, I started Tuesday and I do think it is working already! It feels like I can feel the odd ache or pain in my knee or neck but the pain signal has been dulled down. Like I can still feel the pain but it isn't as painful or as noticeable?

    I can't really explain it properly!:D

I have been reading about it for a few weeks before I started and it makes a lot of sense. The theory is that after a period of emotional/physical/mental stress your fear response keeps being triggered afterwards which leads to a lot of fatigue and in Fibro a lot of unpleasant physical symptoms.

The brain exercises are meant to desensitise your central nervous system as it is overreacting to pain in your body.

It was developed by Ashok Gupta, who suffered from ME/CFS himself before curing himself of it, and then conducting research into the brain neurology of these illnesses. His research led him to conclude that these conditions are caused by abnormalities in the brain, especially in brain structures called the “Insula” & the “Amygdala”. The latest findings in brain neurology, specifically “Neuroplasticity”, show that the brain is inherently re-wireable. And The Gupta Programme is a way of re-wiring the brain’s responses to bring back health and vitality.

It cost me about £200 but there is a money back guarantee if it doesn't work. I don't really care about the money as I spent a lot of my thirties being very frugal and so we have the money now.
It sound like the programme you are trying is based on similar research, the Curable app is based on the work of a DR John Sarno and others who have been researching chronic pain for decades,it was origInally developed to treat chronic migraine and worked really well, then they started using it for other pain conditions with brilliant results,it take work on the part of the patient but if you are going to have big improvements it's worth it,it doesn't cure the pain it helps to deal with any issues that might be contributing to the pain and teaches you how to deal with them

I found it when it came up on my FB feed and was very cynical thinking oh god another whacky theory that won't work,I then started the free trial and was amazed at how much it helped me,I then listened to the podcasts linked to the app and they made perfect sense too,I haven't paid for a subscription yet simply because money is extra tight at the moment but I have bought a couple of books that the research is based on and they have been very helpful
I hope the programme you are trying works for you and will be interested to hear how it works and how you get on,since I've started looking into it all I've become fascinated with how our brains can react to stress in a physical way

Yes, I read about it after you said on here and it does sound like a similar theory.:)

I did read that Sarno book a while back.
