Ain't that just the truth, too! One of my meds is to counteract the side effects from one of the others.

    Poor health truly sucks!
You're not wrong there Wolfy .
DD has Cyclizine to help with the MTX sickness .
Originally had Omoprazole which was changed to Lansoprazole after she began having problems with it .
An anti viral as over the last 18 months she's been having sudden outbreaks of cold sores.
The pill she takes to deal with the PCOS stopped being effective so had to be changed . That's working well apart from outbreaks of the spotty skin that led to her diagnosis in her early teens .
Magic Dr has now prescribed a very fast and effective lotion for that .
So there are 13 monthly meds plus various add ins .
The steroid injections x 2 were on her prescription as it saves a little of the surgery budget . That was by choice as Dr now knows she has the PPC .

I can see the effects of the cuts to funding all the time . The printouts of her regular bloods are so faint they're almost invisible same with the repeat lists . The print is now set to the lowest level possible . Things many wouldn't notice but they are there .

It's one of the reasons I'm such an advocate of the PPC , as I said a while ago 1 months meds cover that yearly payment .

Did you manage to get to Grafton St while you were in Ireland ? It's a lovely little place Eldest daughter had a long standing situation with a man who'd owned a proper bookshop there for decades . He'd had to let the big W book shops take over due to increased costs but stayed on .

It was hilarious following her attempts to promote chick lit rather than proper books . I was on his side so she had two of us to argue with . I must ask her if he's still there . I imagine he's now retired .

Her degree was in English Lit and she didn't see where he and I were coming from . Oddly W are one of the few retail companies which are expanding in these dodgy times . They have gone back to traditional bookshop ways and are doing well .

Is it Dusty who's staying an extra day ?

I'm going to have loads of housework to catch up on when i'm sure the shoulder has calmed down . The hoover hasn't seen the light of day for a couple of weeks . As for the weeds

The sky is clouding over now so I may get the downpour that may clear the air .

    Take care

    Hi everyone!

I'm trying to reduce my meds as much as I can so I now just take 3 pills 3x a day and one monthly infusion. I really don't like all the side effects :(

It's foggy today - really weird but it was glorious yesterday and we managed to have our BBQ and the kids played out all day so that was a bonus!

Took DS to a birthday party today - why do all DJs now tell the kids to go and get their parents up to dance or play games - it's awful as I really couldn't manage it today but would feel awful if I didn't get up?

Home with my feet up now - back to work tomorrow tho - only doing 2 days this week but it's always hard work when the kids are off school!

  • Tink I live on NE coast as well and it has been foggy for last two days. Our flats are on the mouth of the Tyne and there is usually a lovely view across the river to South Shields, but today view ended at the fence!
Don't you find it very frustrating when bright sunshine is being reported elsewhere?
No Polly, I'm a good few miles up the coast from Durham which I regret as it is my home town.
As for being better its just the opposite I'm afraid. Every test I'm sent for comes back with more bad news and now am waiting for a CAT scan. In the meantime the consultant has resorted to giving steroid injection as no-one will resume Sulfazaline or anything else til this liver thing is sorted.
Please forgive errors, am afraid pain and brainfog have me completely lost at the moment.
Have had a very busy weekend which wasn't helped by printer having a tantrum
    Wishing everyone well.

AOT I'm just across from you then!
Had the fog horn going all last night and still a bit foggy today but not as bad!

Been to work this morning and at hospital now - work again tomorrow then I'm off! Going to make a chilli when I get home and have some for tomorrow then freeze the rest.

The freezer is getting ran down again which is fine as need to get some things cleared out! HT is always a good time to give the kids random meals - yesterday the had turkey drummers and fishfingers with potatoes and peas as there was just the last couple in each bag :0 will be good as need to tighten our belts this month too so lots of staying in and eating at home!

I've been looking at the tesc0 club card app as have points to use up but no idea what to spend them on so might use them on some cinema tickets for a day out in the 6 weeks!

Hope everyone is ok and plodding along :)

Polly I'll have to look on the city map to remember all the names of places we visited - but Grafton St sounds right; I noted it because that's also the name of a road near us. :D Mr LW's favourite visit was, unsurprisingly, the Guinness Storehouse. :rotfl:
We used the Luas - the tram system - to get about. It's brilliant, completely wheelchair accessible, and a lot easier than trying to drive in the city; and the trams come along literally every few minutes, so if you miss one, you only need wait a very short while for the next.

Yes it was Dusty who stayed an extra day. He's gone home now, but Honey the Shih Tzu will be here on Saturday; and I have a Meet'n'Greet with two new dogs on Friday, so hopefully they will like us *crosses fingers*.

I also am thankful for PPC; my meds list is pretty impressive:

    Diclofenac + Misoprostol for arthritis
Omeprazole to stop the Diclofenac giving me an ulcer
    Hydroxychloroquine for lupus
    Moclobemide for anxiety and depression
Morphine for pain - this is 10mg + 30mg sustained release tablets twice daily, as they don't make it in 20 or 40 mg tablets, so it counts as two separate items for charging purposes
Oramorph liquid for "breakthrough pain" as the pain doc put it
Systane Balance drops to combat dry eye problems
Blephasol lotion also for my eyes (optician diagnosed blepharitis)

If I had to pay the going rate for it all each month, I simply couldn't afford it, and would have to decide which items I could live without.

AOT I'm sorry the liver is giving you such problems . I hope the appointment for the CAT scan comes through soon . Things must be so much harder when you can't have meds you rely on .

I can send wall to wall sunshine to both yourself and Tink . The last rain here was when I got soaked on Friday . Every day since has been like the build up to a storm but it's just stayed very hot and humid .

I've reached the point where I think I'll end up like Flat Stanley . I don't feel like eating much and it's hard to sleep , there just doesn't seem to be any air .

Shoulder seems to have settled down . I'm taking things slowly so it doesn't flare again .

Hope your appt goes well today Tink . Just keep pacing when you can . As you say it's easier to get the children to eat freezer oddments at this time of year . I used to give mine picnics in the garden which were random bits and pieces from the fridge and freezer and they and their friends used to see it as a treat . I think the Famous Five had an influence there !

AOT Nowadays unless it's urgent I walk away from tech if it starts playing up . I find either a brew or a cold drink and a little sit down puts me in a better frame of mind to sort the issue .

Hello lovely people, sending buckets of hugs and spoons as I have not posted for a long time:( I got through the winter without any serious infections, but my body was engaged in fighting things off for a lot of the time, then the long cold spring seemed to zap energy.

OH and I have been back home a week now after a 26 day holiday in south-west scotland, spending 4 days in Cumbria to break the journeys north and south. Prior to going we had a lot of prep to get the caravan, clothes, food etc ready and I managed to get a lot done in the garden too, then it was pretty full on travelling and sightseeing, and now it has been back to the wilderness that is my garden and the mounds of washing:D

Need to chase the Endocrinologist to make sure that he received all the test results he needed and find out when he can see me to make a plan re the para thyroid, seems from the bone scan that I now have osteoporosis to add to the shipping list of ailments:(

Polly, I am sorry that life has been so full on for you and your DD and that shoulder must have been agony, please try not to do too much and set it off again if you can help it.

AOT, I do hope that you have some answers soon and that the liver levels can be addressed.

Tink, I am humbled by how you manage to do all that you do and with a family to take care of too.

LW, after all the hassle of travelling and staying in a new place I hope that you have great memories of your trip to talk about with your OH. Dusty sounded a sweetie, the furry one here was only a little put out by the thunder storm, even though there was a huge clap of thunder right overhead at one stage, must have really been loud as I don't hear too much without my hearing aids normally. Fingers crossed for the meet and greet. Wish you were near enough to be Aunty Wolfie to Miss MM:D

Itisme, fingers crossed that you are doing a little better now.

Regarding the cost of medication, I thank my lucky stars that nearly all of my ailments have happened since I reached 61. I had the PA at 50, but my surgery never charged for the injections. My weekly Hizentra jabs cost several hundred pounds and would cost even more if I had to attend hospital each month for IV:( I do spend a lot on supplements, Iron etc and digestive stuff to help with the IBS, I am fortunate that I can, and feel better about saving the NHS a little money where possible.

Best wishes everyone, hope to drop by more often if I can.
    MM

Wouldn't that be grand? I'd be delighted to have her stay, if it was possible.

The trouble with holidays, is you need a holiday afterwards to recover! :rotfl: But yes, it was good to visit somewhere we've not been before, even if the hotel left something to be desired; their menu listed fish dishes as being suitable for vegetarians; also listed Caesar salad as being veggie, but when you read through the "blurb", it contained bacon. There was a German vegetarian lady at the table next to us who got caught out by that, and she was Not Happy! I suspect she'll be giving them negative feedback, as we did.

LameWolf - I have just been catching up on Martin's newsletter for this week and see that you have been quoted in the 12 ways to stop wasting food section:D

Forumite LameWolf uses this trick: “I prefer a slice of lemon in my tea instead of milk, and always keep lemon slices in the freezer for this purpose.”

Damping here, hope that does not mean that OH cannot go cycling:(, he might be a tad grumpy if confined to base:rotfl:

Need to get ready for my weekly gym session, still half asleep, but it has really begun to pay off, my body is much stronger, fingers crossed it will continue.

Hugs and spoons and best wishes for a good day.
