HELP! I lent a friend money and they wont pay it back

Hello. 6 Months ago I lent my friend £50. He will not pay it back giving me excuse after excuse after excuse. He sporadically replies to my text messages and wont answer my calls. I know its only £50 but it is the principle. I have 6 months worth of text messages from him confirming the debt and I also have messages from his mother too. Could someone please please please advise if there is anything I can do? It is keeping me up at night thinking that my friend (ex friend) is laughing knowing full well that he is not going to pay it back.

Thanks

For £50 I'd just move on and chalk it up to experience.

You could try taking him to the small claims court. But that'd cost you money.

Consider it a relatively cheap lesson on how much your 'friend' values friendship.

Chalk it down to experience. Never lend more than you can afford to lose or better still, never lend money, it ruins families and friendships ...... plenty of examples all over the forum.

Small claims is the way, but it will take time and money. Make sure to sue for the money and court costs, but even with that he may still not pay if he doesn't care about his credit file in which case you are out not only the 50 quid but also court costs. Then you would have to go into collection, and that is where it would cost you hundrets of pounds that you won't see back.

I've heard that said so many times, and really wish it were true.
    But i don't think so.

Your £50 is gone. No point in frustrating yourself further tying to recover it. Chalk it up to experience and move on.
