Child on board sticker

I think this is an urban myth. I can't imagine the emergency services would rely on a sign from Mothercare that may or may not relate to anything in the vehicle. Surely the presence of toys and feeding bottles etc in the crashed vehicle would be a more reliable indication? As far as I can see, new parents get one of these signs and then it stays in the car for ever after, whether they have the child in the car, or whether it's being used for the daily commute.
You cannot see anything in the back of the car due to tinted windows. I was told this by a friend who is a fireman. I personally dont want to be sticking a sign to the glass of my newly purchased (albeit 2nd hand) car, but the wife is a little protective of our non-sleeping pride and joy0 -
I thought that Child on Board notices were to warn the motorist behind that, at a set of traffic lights, the child might get out of the car and kick your headlights in!
That's the main reason i want one, my son is Walsall born and bred... He doesn't behave quite as well as his Birmingham born parents did at his age...0 -
Depends on your particular mindset/point of view but usually the sign
- is a warning sign for the car behind, that at any moment the driver may be distracted by a child and potentially cause an accident
- is a way of arrogantly implying that the following driver needs to modify their driving so as not to endanger the precious child
- when stationary warns that at any moment a rear door may be flung wide open into your path
- When parking tells you to either leave a full doors width or park 2" off the side so either they can fling the door to its check stop, or they can't open it at all
- Watch out for sweet wrappers, drinks cans or even the contents of a potty coming out of the windows.
Don't think it makes any difference in an accident, as the child seat should be there.
Again - told by a fireman the reason for them but tinted windows mean nothing in the back of the car is visible child or yellow sign.0 -
Oh come on, seriously?
So otherwise they look inside the car only for adults and then half an hour later when a child crawls out of the wreckage they say "!!!! - never thought to check for kids"
Looking at it from the other perspective, there has been time wasted by fire crews checking if a child is on board because of a sticker on the window.

So does the sign come out when the baby isn't in the car, to save wasting time looking for a baby that isn't there in the event of an accident?
Would a suction cup one work?

For these signs to serve any purpose, you need a collision that is so bad that the fire brigade have to free the adult occupants, and for them to be injured too badly to point out there's a child on board.
And you expect a sign hanging from a little rubber sticker still to be in place?0 -

You do realise that if your car was involved in an accident as soon as any emergency services arrived on scene they can easily check inside every vehicle to see the extent of the injuries and who they are. They arnt just going to go round peering into tinted windows and say "This one has tinted windows we can't see through, move onto the next car".
If baby on board signs were helpful in any way to the emergency services they would start a campaign to encourage their use and explain how they should be used. Such as telling people they must remove them when their child is not in the car etc.0 -
