  • 2nd option - didn't have much freedom as a child, I don't think I was every really bought much as a child. I got a tv for my room when I was 16 and a 3310 nokia when I was old enough to go wandering but generally my friends could afford things that I couldn't. Don't think thats got to do with it though, I really struggle with wanting the newest of things. It's weird - I went through a phase where I'd spend hundreds on new clothes that I didn't even fit....although that I can relate to insecurity to be fair

Oh my God ! you poor thing.
    In comparison .....
I never had a TV until I was working and bought myself one.
The first phone I bought was from a scholarship stipend when I was in university.
It think the key problem here is as you said " ... I don't think I was every really bought much as a child ...". I don't know a lot about you and who am I to judge but I think you are soooo out of touch with reality. You need to sort out your habits or you will end up in a heap of debt.
Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.
Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard.
Being in debt is hard. Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard.
Communication is hard. Not communicating is hard. Choose your hard.
Life will never be easy. It will always be hard. But you can choose your hard.

Um - ok. That wasn't very nice now was it? Was I answering a question? Yes

Did I say that any of that had bothered me? No.

Did I mind that I didn't have a television in my room? No - I spent my formative years reading library books and this is something I still prefer to do over watching television. My comment was a factual one - in answer to the question I was ruminating.

"generally my friends could afford things that I couldn't. Don't think thats got to do with it though" - is pretty clear to me. I recognise that I had less than my friends but I never felt peer pressured to have the latest things. Because I didn't.

I would also note, I had the Nokia 3310 until I was able to afford a new phone which I paid for myself when working. Once I got a part time job my parents stopped my allowance (which was £20 a month) and I have nothing to complain about it.

You've read the sentence wrong where I have said "I don't think I was ever really bought much as a child". I don't know how you are reading it but my perspective is "I don't think" means I don't remember/I've never really thought too much about it. I do vaguely remember what I would get as presents at birthday and christmas and it would be things like books or useful things. My comparison was to that of my best friend for example who would get perfume, handbags and clothes. I got books and that was what I wanted to get. I can make the comparison now but I have never felt entitled to presents at birthdays and christmas. In fact, I work really hard to pass that on to my son.

But now Android have definitely taken the lead. The S7 Edge is have now is much more powerful than the IPhone 7.

Yeah.. more powerful you say... more like how bloated android is when Apples one year old iPhone 6S leaves Samsungs latest phone for dead , and the iPhone does that on half the cores and half the RAM. Thats before the iPhone 7 comes along to go even further ahead.

Buying a Samsung phone is not a mistake i intend on ever repeating.

Now that I read my reply it does sound rude - sorry that was not my intent.

Weeeellll I did ask to be verbally bashed so you were right on the money there :rotfl:

In your defence, perhaps I did sound like I was wistful and miserable as a teenager - I really did mean that I know my friends had things I couldn't have but it didn't bother me. I'm still reading The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton at 27 :j

That is definitely one advantage of Apple that they write their operating system to only run on a few devices so can be better optimised for performance. The Android operating system and apps have to run on hundreds of different devices so can't as easily be optimised for each specific device.

But thay is also a negative because Apple control the operating system so also control what apps can run on it and also how much they charge people. This is the reason why you can get so many apps on Android for free that you have to pay for on Apple. One example is a children's colouring game I saw. On the Android phone it was ad supported and all colours were available but on Apple devices you had to buy extra colours!. I then went on to find this applied to hundreds of similar games like dentist games where you had to pay for extra tools but were all free on Android.

Then when you consider that Apple have basic features missing such as File Explorers, Wireless Charging. I don't think a slight speed increase is worth joining the Apple culture where you pay more to get less!.

I had considered selling my sons ipad and replacing it with an android - especially as I could side load so many apps, but all android tablets I've ever owned just have got quite sluggish

  • first of all you're in NEARLY NINE THOUSAND POUNDS IN DEBT!!!!!!

    NINE THOUSAND and you're considering a £700 phone that's not a necessity.

    Seriously, show some common sense.
