With gadgets, I have a though process that seems to serve me well: we live in a time where technology moves obscenely fast. If you spend £700 that you don't have right now, you'll get something that's nice now, but by the time you've paid for it, it's worthless. On the other hand, if it's a gadget you really really want, try and put £50 a month from your "pocket money" towards it, without allowing yourself to fall short on other commitments for it. By the time you've got that £700, the model you want now will be old, and half the price. Next years model will be out, and you can pay cash for it guilt free, because that's what you've been saving for.0

Sounds a good plan, but OP wants a Ferrari now, so dont think 50 quid a month will quite cut the mustard lolI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. A Ferrari wouldn't get down the ramp into the underground car park at work. Totally not practical - no I'm after a BMW 4x4 :rotfl:Money money money.

The new iPhone is complete rubbish. It's extremely overpriced, has only 2GB of Ram. YOu can get an Android phone about 3 times better by paying half. The only reason anyone would buy it is because of the hype and because it's a bragging device.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.0

I skimmed through this thread, and think you need to slow down Abby .
Regarding the new iPhone : no headphone socket.
Stick with what you have, until you're in a better position ( or your phone ceases to work properly anymore ). Oh, and get a sim only contract for it .
I still have the 5s . My only regret , being that I received a call from Vodafone on my way to hospital and haven't as much space as my iPhone 4
32gb
You say you want a new car ?
I'm trying to tidy up my mistakes, and suggest you do the same and avoid getting stuff for the hell of it . Treat yourself once in a while , with the new Metallica album etc but nothing more than that.
I wish you well0 -

It's just as easy to drag a file to Google Drive as it is to iCloud, and Google gives you three times a much free space as iCloud. It's just about habit, I suppose, and it only takes a small amount of effort to change the habit and get as much use and convenience out of the Google ecosystem as the Apple one.
I wouldn't call it a trick - I have used android and then iOS and prefer iOS. I do feel it suits me better and is easier, I work on a Mac and have an iPad and iPhone. My books are stored in the iCloud and it's easy to download to iPad and sync between iBooks on many devices. I did used to use google play books as you can put your own books on there but it kept finding errors and displaying blank pages. I don't think I'd go to android again, but that's mainly because all my devices are ios. Obviously if I didn't have a mac then that would maybe change my choice of phone.Money money money.

It's over £800, probably more from Very and doesn't even have a headphone socket, apparently this is because apple 'believe in a future without wires' ..not enough to put wireless charging on their phones though
Madness to even consider it ;-)0 -

I have never understood this urge for people to spend ridiculous amounts on iPhones when you can get phones that do essentially exactly the same things fora fraction of the price. I have a OnePlus 3, which is a lovely phone, looks as good as an iPhone (IMO) and is just s functional and it cost me £330.
Me also.
I'm on PAYG and actually spent £70 on a new phone (my old one broke) in the Vodafone shop last year. Looks like an iphone and does all the same stuff.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
