What are you up to for Halloween? We are doing some baking and watching scary movies. So i'll do my run in the morning instead i think.

This year we are actually going out trick or treating. We will decorate the house but not put anything outside. Every year I give out 80+ bags of sweets and as we can't be in two places at once son always has to stay in house to help give out sweets, he only ever gets to go out down our small street. This year we will not be giving out our own sweets and collecting some for him, about time he got something back :D

Still very busy at work so won't be finishing until school run time, no opportunity to go out on my own next week so I have decided if I am going to do this son will have to come with me I don't think either of us fancy running with that amount of people about

Claire I missed your post :(

Very well done :T:T:T That is an impressive time for a first 5K run.

What is your plan now? Are you going to continue to run?

Still going to carry on I think - but at the moment my ankle is hurting and only got back yesterday so not for a few days - walked 50 miles in 5 days (and drove 1000miles) so going to veg out at least all of today (ok did walk 3-4miles earlier to stop cramping up and get some basic food) and back on night shifts tomorrow - depending on the ankle I may go out for a run tomorrow
  • Week 9 day 2 done, but nowhere near 5k! Think I'm gradually getting faster though- new pb for running a mile, down to 11m 06, just need to keep it up.Aiming to do the last one on Tuesday and then move on to the 10k plan at the weekend- not sure if that calls for a new thread or not!

Is there a 10k plan? I would have thought that you could already run 10k if you can run 5k (its not as daft as it sounds) its just a case of building the distance slowly so that your body doesn't shout at you for the big increase in mileage. But fundamentally your body should be capable of the 10k now.

I have just downloaded an app for the progression from 5k to 10k. Now just got to work out how to fit it in.

  • Ha, I don't think for a second I could run 10k now- I made it to just over 4K last night and I was definitely pushing it! I'm using the Zen Labs app which has largely the same challenges as the 5k to 10k- you just pick up on week 10. The adverts on it are hugely irritating though so @MallyGirl I'd love to hear which app/podcast you're using? Thanks

I made a start on the 5k to 10k plan I found and it was interesting. It said 20 min steady run - so you could hold a conversation. I found that quite comfortable and accidentally did 25 mins (plus warm up/cool down) when I didn't hear the instruction to stop running! My pace wasn't that much slower than my PR but I felt I could have carried on for a fair bit more so you are right that a 'very slow' 10k would probably be manageable. I am dead at the end of a PR. The only event near me at this distance is reviewed as being very tough with the last 3k quite uphill so I am still looking for something to aim for.

  • WTBSE, I know I'd be struggling after a few weeks off - push on and I'm sure it'll get easier.

Mallygirl- which app are you using? Have final run tomorrow, so would be good to know where to go from there. Thx
