  • I'm so clumsy I fear falling outdoors at the best of times! Just finished day 3 week 5...5min solid run . Well that was the plan! I paused treadmill a couple if times and my Base speed was set at 6.5 and just raised it when my legs were getting sore lol then lowered when I was pufed out. Still a lot of progress to make (it was a 3k run in total, so 2k to make up by week 9). Tempted to take a peek at next week's run! Anyone doing my fitness pal as well?

Edit: just checked next week. That Sarah millican lures you into a false sense of security day 1 and 2 of week 6 then hits out with a 25min run, the cheek! Will try work on bringing my base speed up slightly next week and NO PAUSING! I feel much more achieved when I do it 'properly'.

well done I can't imagine running 5 minutes at this stage  I wouldn't worry about speed, just pretend you are running outside if you did that you wouldn't know what speed you were going, as long as you are moving (however slowly - I had someone overtake me walking before :o) thats all that matters.

Also outside I pause a bit (well walk that slow I might as well be going backwards :rotfl:) but again you don't notice this as there is no digital display to set. I know at the end the speed I walk would be too slow for a treadmill to register.

Hi All hope you dont mind me joining you? I have been reading all your encouraging posts, think thats what has made me determind to do this! I have just finished my day3 of week 1, and boy it doesnt seem any easier, but once i was back in my car driving home i felt Great! Dont no whether i should do week one again next week or go straight in on week 2, what would you suggest? I no what i definately need to do , buy a shock absorber bra, i' m wearing 2 bras at the mo!! X

    hello and welcome.

It feels good to finish the week. Its up to you how you feel, what you want to do next week. If you don't feel ready then repeat a week much better to take it slowly and finish than to struggle so you give up. I was thinking and I think that 9 weeks to finish might be a bit ambitious I am moving onto week 2 but fully expect further along to have to repeat a week (or two, three. four.....)

Hopefully once you get the correct bra you will find it a bit easier as it will become more comfortable.

Hi, welcome! I'm still wearing my breastfeeding bra lol. I might try a sports bra again but I've tried them before and they didn't support me much...I'm quite large lol.

I would suggest going to week 2...I considered repeating week 3 but the plan in actually quite good and allow's for you buidling up slowly. As soon as you do 90secs you'll think 1min was a doddle lol.

I've just read my post back, must have still been delirious from my run...it wasnt 5 min's at all it was 20 with a 5 min walk each side. Still wondering how it's going to lead up to 5k in 4 more weeks but I have faith lol.

Wow you ran for 20 minutes :rotfl: well done :T

I think the plan title is a bit misleading, it takes you to the stage where you can run for 30 minutes, you might or might not manage 5K in those 30 minutes. I would concentrate on the time not the distance, once you can run for 30 minutes then you can start to look to increase your distance if you want to.
  • lellyo- you are more than welcome to join us! hope you can be an insipration to us too! :) I think you should try a day of week 2 and see how you go, you might surprise yourself! or slowly build up a few extra seconds of running, so when it tells you to stop keep going for 5 seconds more, then 10 seconds more etc just to build it up a little slower if you're worried about the sudden jump.

    Hi Lellyo!

I follow the plan in as much as once I've done the podcast the correct number of times properly I move on. So my first 2 goes at week 1 weren't 'proper' because I didn't run every 60 seconds I was supposed to - I just upped my walking pace for 2 of them the first time I did it and 1 of them the second time. (And then I was going to move on but was unexpectedly away and did my first 'road' run and didn't fancy combining a new week and a new route!)

Now I'm on week 2 - the first one I'm not counting as 'properly done' because I had terrible calf cramp and had to stop twice to stretch out! Whereas the second time I did it I ran and walked in all the right places :T so I'll do it another 2 times, then move on...eeep!

I really don't want to move on before I'm ready and get all demoralised, so I don't mind if 9 weeks takes me 15 weeks or whatever :rotfl: I just want to get there!

Best of luck to you, come back and keep us updated with how you get along!

  • I have just started the couch 2 5k program run by my council through event brite website eventbrite co uk. When I was looking for a group to join, I also used the bbcs get inspired webpage bbc co uk sport get-inspired. Regarding bras, as others have said, go for a bra that is suitable for running. Not all sports bras are suitable for running. The bigger you are, the more support you need. I personally use shock absorber bras as they are good for support, don't make you sweat a lot and last a long time Regarding trainers, it is best to get your running assessed. I know someone who ran for years and ended up going to a physiotherapist due to injuries. This was put down to wearing the wrong trainers. Once he changed his trainers, he suffered less injuries.
  • So pleased I found this thread! I'm following C25k to, and have just completed week 6, day 1. I can't tell you how terrible I was when I started out and how exhilarating it was to run for 20 minutes for the first time!

My best advice would be to not make excuses, have attempted this a few times and gave runs a miss, if it was too hot, too cold, I was on my period, too tired etc. I've actually had some of my best runs when knackered! In terms of sportswear, give TkMaxx a go, got some great leggings with pockets for less than £20.

Good luck, everyone, you can do it!
