Seller didnt disclose engine light on

If he's treated as a dealer, as has been said, he didn't declare the fault and should have. Guilty.
Even if he does turn out to be private, if you didn't ask if the engine light ever came on (he would have to answer honestly, yes) then he has now admitted to withholding the information, by telling you it doesn't come on all the time. He has admitted he knows it comes on 'sometimes' in the advert, so he should have declared that. Guilty.0 -
Well he says he sold the car to me at a price that in his eyes covers any possible repairs anyway so has refused any conversation about refund or paying for repair, so i guess the balls in my court nowNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

And do you consider the price you paid reflects the repair bill you now face or did you pay a fair price for the car?0 -
I think looking at the ones available now , plus the cost (tbc) of a new fuel pump means i overpaid by about a £1200, maybe slightly moreNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

Because adding a £1,700 pump to the purchase price gives £1,200 overpriced.
Not sure where your coming from , i paid about the going rate , add the fuel pump cost to that means i would have vastly overpaid for the car , for £4500 or that area i could have stretched to newer and better motorNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
So he says that he allowed for the fault in the price. But you say that he didn't disclose the fault in the first place! He can't have it both ways!0

ebay can be used to show if he is a trader or not. Go to a current add or old one if you still have it on your watch list. Select the option to see sellers other items. Screen shot any cars for sale. Now under auction type select completed items which will show all items advertised by this ebay user for around the last 6 months. Screenshot all the car listings. If he is selling more the 2-3 cars a year he is a trader and the court would accept this ebay history as evidence of his trading status.0
