Hi

Am sure i am screwed but opinions welcome

I bought a car on Ebay from a private seller (who is now selling two cars , but was only selling this one at the time i bought it)

I checked all details i could with him as he is in miles away from me, he never mentioned the engine light once , i had it bought down to me here , turn on the ignition , warning light straight on , text him to tell him and he says it doesnt come on `all the time`

I didnt know it came on at all!

Anyway , long story short , the fault codes shown after having the car plugged in are pointing to a faulty fuel pump = £1700 or thereabouts (its a hefty 4x4)
I think i know the answer , but do i have any rights?

Cheers

Someone will be along to advise you of your rights, but £1700 for a fuel pump is absurd, even for a hefty 4x4. Get some more quotes.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Snad on eBay open a case in the resolution centre.

Trouble is when you win you won't have paid by PayPal.

Seller didnt disclose a major fault.

He has admitted the light had been coming on for him and didnt tell you.

Keep the text, get the work done and recover the cost from him via moneyclaim online

Oh, and in the meantime, keep copies of every ad he puts on as evidence hes a trader :)

Ok so code points to fuel pump -- and what diagnostics have been done?

Error codes are quite as simple as reading where a fault lies. And presumably the vehicle runs and drives? Fuel pump fault would usually result in hesitation, limp mode and a few other symptoms -- you've not said anything about the car not running properly....

Nah eBay nor PayPal offer protection for motor vehicles.

You bought a car unseen. Caveat emptor.

If he was selling one car (the one you bought) and is now selling 2 cars then that's 3 in the space of few weeks and to me that looks like a trader.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

The car is sluggish, but i put that down to needing a good service and he fact its a 4x4 so its not going to be a smooth ride

The cars going to have to be booked in to a garage for investigation but the codes are not a good sign for this particular model of car

Anyway , lesson learnt , i should know better
