Coming up cheapest option for me though I'll need to make sure my usage hasn't changed over the last year.

I have today switched with new Collective from EON to BG. Last year's switch finished on 9th September for me, so I believe I am right in thinking so long as BG contact EON by 29th (20 days protection window) then I can stay on existing tariff?

As the switch could take longer (anything up to 6 weeks) or BG not contact EON in this time frame, then I have a problem. When I logged into my EON account, I noticed that comparison estimates (I have been moved to EON Energy Plan) seem to have altered over past few days. I dug a bit deeper, only to discover that I have been put on Economy Seven. Although I have lived here for 15 years, I have never had Economy Seven and have always provided 2 metre readings which are added together for daytime rate. I have been doing this for several years - with EON.

I phoned EON and asked why they had done this and said I wanted to be on 'normal' rate but was told I would have to apply to switch! The advisor spoke to her supervisor who said it was not necessary because it was such a short time frame. I suggested they just amended my account, but got nowhere and I felt I was given the brush off.

Hopefully,my switch to BG will be quick, but if not, I do not see why I should be paying higher electricity charges. I cannot even take advantage of Economy 7 hours because I live in a flat and there is no way I can run washing machine, dishwasher etc at night. As I am retired, most of my usage is during normal daytime hours.

I'm really confused by the Cheap Energy Club results at the moment.

It's not clear what the Collective Switch deal is. I've seen British Gas mentioned on the forums but that's not showing for me (it could be because I'm electric only).

If I click 'Top Picks' it shows the SSE Collective 2 Year Paperless Tariff which would save me £61 per year. However clicking on 'All Tariffs shows results where the Collective Tariff isn't even in the Top 10. The top pick would save me £209 per year.

I think these collective switches are now a waste of time if I'm honest and seem pitched at people who are already with one of the big six.

They're probably great for people who haven't been switching on a regular basis.

  • I am a bit confused as no big switch prices are coming up for me??

Yes same here and I am definitely pre registered with the club. Perhaps there is a glitch in their system.

The "winning" tariff isn't showing / at the top of the page, because it's more expensive than the tariff you are currently on.

If you scroll down your tariffs you will find the MSE "winning" tariffs highlighted in orange. Scroll further down for SSE two year fix.

I had already done that but nothing shown. As I have already said the last time the comparison site shown for me was 12 September. If they were shown farther down I would have expected to see 13 September.

  • When I check the Cheap Energy Club for my details the new British Gas one year fixed collective is way, way down on my list for savings.

Didn't these MSE collective used to be the cheapest on the market?

Depends on where you live and your usage profile.

For me, it currently is the cheapest...
