My name is katkin and I indulge in getting my hair done. I save for it and have been going to grey with blond highlights for about a year now.

My hairdresser reckons in another year she'll be out of a job with me as its blending really well.

It costs me £70 (with cut, blow dry etc) plus an extra £20 for Olaplex treatment. This repairs the condition and damage of bleaching and over processing your hair. It's definitely worth it.

This is my indulgence. My hairs lovely haha.. I'm owning n celebrating this middle aged malarkey!
  • Katkin, I am growing my colour out as well. I am 71 and I have coloured my hair (various) since I was about 20.

I am have short hair so it won't take very long, I think by Christmas mission should be accomplished.

I know the top will be white by the colour of my roots, but I think there will be grey at the side and probably at the back. In fact I have no idea what my natural colour is now - wait and see. Of course grey hair is very fashionable at the moment especially for younger people, so I am going with the trend.

I do have to have my hair cut every 5 weeks though because it grows so quickly, but I feel that is a necessity not an extravegance:)

Candlelight my hair was almost black, and when I went grey I dyed it black. Until one day I looked in the mirror when I had flu and saw Elvis' ghost looking back at me. I stopped dyeing, let the roots come through to 2", and then got all the black cut off. It was really short and really gorgeous, and since then I've been playing with blond & silver shades. I think when we get older we need good hair. So its not an indulgence at all. ;) no... really!

We are definitely on trend :D

Mine is shoulder length, longer at the back. I have Malin steaks so it's pretty white along the front and sides. The back is still dark so it looks a lot better with various shades of ash blonde highlights through it.

I get it done about every 3 months.

Last night I set it in pin curls with Kirkby grips, so I'm looking a bit "Marlyn Munroe" today haha. Cheap as chips to do and no heating products used. It'll last about 3 days. I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week. I used to do it daily before the going to grey treatment!

    Your hair sounds lovley x
  • Mar, I have been a few colours over the years. My hair was very dark, naturally, when I was young, but over the years I have gone lighter. I think our skin colour changes as we become older and synthetic dark colours don't suit us. It must have been a scarey moment to see Elvis' ghost:):)

I will say Mar I don't have as much hair as I did when I was young. I don't mean I have bald spots but it thinner.

Katkin yes I can see why you would have streaks because your hair is longer. I am going cold turkey, I just hope I can manage it

My indulgence is sort of MSE. If there is any washing powder, liquid, tabs or fabric conditioner etc on special offer I have to buy them!! I remember an offer about 2 years ago when Fairy or Ariel tabs (big box) cost £10 each, £12 for 3 with a My Waitrose card, plus staff discount which ended up with them costing £7.50 - for all three!!! I bought enough to last me 6 months, then bought some more. I try really hard not to buy them at the moment (got sooooo much of it at the moment) but I like sniffing them all and deciding what my washing should smell like today! Better than buying handbags (let's not go there!)

    ooh great thread!
Definitely holidays and not having to hold back when you are on holiday - saving all year makes those few weeks totally worthwhile!

Also - thanks to the poster who mentioned Postcrossing - I LOVE sending postcards and I'd never head of this before - signed up and sent some already! x

Perfume and things to wear on my head :o I have alopecia and I'm currently as bald as a coot :D I have a plastic tub where I keep my various head coverings and I have so many of them- at least 10 cotton elasticated bandanas in all colours (mostly around £6 a pop although I have a black turban type one which cost me £21 from HotHair in Nottingham and a blue turban one which cost me £24 from Selfridges in London :o) some beautiful headscarves- ranging from £2 Primark bargains to £18 Lipsy ones (and I have three of them :o) my wig collection is worth probably about five hundred quid (although I only bought one of them- a pink dip dye one which I paid £25 for) I was given the rest by a charity. I just love buying scarves and things- I like to have head coverings in every colour to match my outfit, whatever I'm wearing :)
Oh my goodness and perfume! My bathroom windowsill looks like a branch of the Perfume Shop :D left to right- Poison Girl, Lady Million, Calvin Klein CKin2u, Juicy Couture Couture La La, Givenchy Ang Ou Demon Le Secret, Viva La Juicy (I have two bottles of this) Rihanna Rogue, Hollister Wave, Christina Aguilera Original (again I have two bottles of this) Christina Aguilera Night, Armani Code Luna and Simply Be the fragrance. Some of those were bought in offers, in sales or given to me but the most expensive- the Poison Girl, Lady Million and Viva La Juicy I paid full price for!

Definately my weakest link is Yankee candles, but in my defence I buy usually through boots when they do a triple pointspromotion and they are on 3 for 2 as well!! 😀
