    Gilly hope you're ok
ATB it was something I read on this site somewhere, think Martin calls it self-insuring.

I have been considering taking out kitchen appliance cover in the event of the DW, WM etc breaking - MiL has it and was waxing lyrical about how worthwhile it is. Anybody have any experience?
I took out insurance on all my new appliances when our kitchen was done almost exactly 3 years ago. The most I paid for any appliance was £5.99 per month (I think that's for the double oven, but I'm not at home to check). A couple of weeks ago the built-in FF gave up the ghost. The engineer came on Wednesday (the delay was due only to my full diary and the intervention of the Bank Holiday) and has condemned the FF as irreparable. He says that I will get a free replacement. For me, the FF insurance has been very worthwhile.

However, I have declined to take out insurance on my not-quite-so-new TD at £7.99 p.m. because (a) it is a much simpler machine to repair and (b) not so expensive to replace, and I have cancelled the insurance on the cooker hood because I never use it.

It's really down to luck: my defunct FF blew a pipe and lost its gas, which rarely happens. Meanwhile the freestanding FF which my DH bought nearly 10 years ago, and which lives in our utility, is still working well - a godsend under the present circumstances! - despite having moved house with us twice and survived the mess of dust caused by our current house being practically rebuilt around it.

Hope everyone has a good day. I am not planning on doing any more flying today than I achieved yesterday :D

  • Hi there. I did a search for this but couldn't find anything so I thought the fly lady thread would probably be the most appropriate but please admins move it if there is a thread.
I'm looking for tips on defrosting our fridge freezer please. We have a fridge with a little separate freezer at the top. I'm worried that if I just unplug it and the ice melts then water may go down and flood the engine(?). As you can tell I've never done this before an be don't know much about it so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

VintageLady, the motor is sealed, so quite ok to just switch it off. Just keep checking it regularly, removing larger pieces of ice as they become free, and have some old towels around the floor, and be ready to mop up the water.

WUDUPA, me and LittleDog are fed, pork is in the slow cooker and I've done a 45 minute workout.

    Best get clean.

You can speed up defrosting by putting bowls of hot water in and *almost* closing the door. You may need to refill the bowls as the water cools.
