I think "the occupier" type stuff has to be delivered, but the other stuff is certainly an area that requires further investigation.
A bit awkward that one!
Even though the postmen complain about delivering stuff like that, they do get paid extra for it.Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0 -
Silly question number 49
Do I have to have a letter box?
I'm always up when the post arrives so the postman could knock and I'd be able to decide on the spot which mail I was and wasn't prepared to accept.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Well, I suppose the answer to that one is no, you don't. Because there are plenty of businesses who don't have letterboxes and the postmen just come in and deliver.0

I'll give it some thought. See if there's a definitive answer on the post office site perhaps.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. what if your on holiday or god forbid ill in hospital what then??? and also i think the postman has to deliver all addressed mail by law so you wont be able to tell him you dont want this or that if its got your name or anyone living at your address on it they have to deliver it..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,

We are largely talking about non-named junk mail here. I must certainly be free to refuse that?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. How do the freepost envelopes in junk mail work ? I know the basics, but how are companies charged ? What happends if I cross out the FREEPOST on the address label ? Who gets charged if I use the envelope to send something to someone else ? Does it make any difference if I send back a 10kg parcel, or are the companies charged an average ? I've looked on the Royal Mail website, but obviously it's not something they encourage.Every silver lining has a cloud...

SidB,
Good point you raise here, I have often wondered about putting an address label over the address on the label. One way to check would be to send it to yourself, and be prepared to pay (or refuse delivery) for an unstamped envelope.
I can think of two types of post paid envelopes, the first has no stamp or stamp thingy, and says FREEPOST in the address, this type I am sure it is not possible to do anything with other than write to the intended address. I expect the way these work is that if the sender does not put a stamp on the envelope then they are counted and delivered in bulk along with a demand for payment.
The other type are the ones that are addressed with no FREEPOST and the envelope is printed with a 1st or 2nd stamp thingy. this type have a business reply service no. in the top left corner. and if the envelope is used, then the cost is charged to the account holder. The question is would it work if someone put an address label over the top of the printed address?
The other question is would this be counted as mail fraud or theft?0
