Junk mail !

Can I encourage everyone to use the postage paid envelopes that arrive with your junk mail.
I have used the mail preference service and it works very well for me. I still get letters addressed to the occupier or not adddressed at all and delivered by Royal Mail.
I always put the literature back into the envelope and post it back to them. This helps Royal Mail too with their profits.
You could just seal an empty envelope back to them.
I also get unaddressed stuff delivered by postman like flyers and leaflets of this that and the other, I suppose we could start just putting this stuff into the post boxes too. The postman puts it into my letterbox without asking me if I want it, so we should put it back into their letterbox.
Cheers :j

What a splendid idea - the posting literature back into letterboxes. I may just do that one.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0

Is there an "opt out" for this type of junk mail? I'm with the mail preference service, but still get loads of flyers etc. regularly jammed in with my regular post.
I've been on the Royal Mail's site, and all I can find on it is information on how wonderful a marketing tool it is! It goes straight in the recycle bin - but what a waste of paper in the first place..."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
No, there is no opt out for unaddressed mail or "to the occupier" mail.
If everyone posted it back into their postboxes maybe they would stop doing it. Well, actually I guarantee that if *everyone* posted it back they would have to stop because the post boxes would become full of leaflets.0 -
I thought all us money savers positively looked forward to "junk mail" now.
As Martin more or less said himself, there may be a very good deal/offer that comes through your letterbox one day,e.g credit card promotionSponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0 -
I usually post somebody else's junk mail back in each envelope.
What I'd really like to know is "How come any Joe Bloggs can stuff any darn thing they like into my letter box any darn time they please?"
Is there a law that says they can?
Is there a law that says they can't?
If I put a notice on my door saying "No fliers or junk mail!" is the postman going to take notice? Would the postman be obliged to comply with such a notice? I don't know if you need a full blown court appearance/injunction or if you just need to formally tell the person/org not to do something e.g. by letter. and although I have seen notices on letterboxes saying the same as you said I don't know if it is enough to stop them legally.
As an aside I know that "Which?" or TV consumer program reported a case where a man had a dog that chewed up mail, and he told the royal mail not to post it but to put it into the outside letterbox he provided. I think he sued Royal mail for damages to his mail, and won because for some reason they kept posting through his letterbox.0 -
The postman has to deliver as addressed.Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0

We're also discussing unaddressed,
e.g. completly unaddressed nothing, zip, nada...
or alternatively
The Occupier

I think "the occupier" type stuff has to be delivered, but the other stuff is certainly an area that requires further investigation.0 -
What I've been doing for years now is sending them each others "junk". e.g. I will send credit card literature to somewhere else, say double glazing company - in their prepaid envelope of course - and vice versa. If there is no prepaid envelope I just send to a relevant address without a stamp!0

i love junk mail.. the more the merrier.. if im getting mail delivered to my home no matter what it is i know then that my name and address and therefore my identity hasnt been stolen. if i didnt get any mail for at least a week i would be on the phone to the post office asking them if my mail had been redirected somewere. thats how they work they steal your address and before your aware they have stolen your identity... so roll on tomorrows junk mail. some i read some i dont but every bit ends up in the recycling. Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0
