The referendum result was about leaving the EU nothing more, nothing less. The majority of our SOVEREIGN parliament want a SOFT brexit, in fact the majority of the electorate do as well.

no idea of your point : parliament will be sovereign soon

and I've no idea what the poll meant
words like 'hard' and 'soft' brexit have no well defined meaning but do have emotional baggage

For 'Christ Sake' you lot; get over it. The country voted (by Majority) to get out of being ruled by Europe, I included, then so be it. We can paddle our own canoe; why do you not have loyalty to our own democracy without having to 'bow' down to politicians whom you have not elected, from Europe ??:mad: I have, in the past, always voted Labour; but our current Prime Minister appears to be singing from the correct hymn sheet. If she doesn't continue to do so, then she will be gone at Our next Election.

I'm not in the fishing industry, but it's pretty clear that's been devastated by the EU.

I'm sure the fact that our representative in the fisheries comittee never actually turned up during his posting had nothing to do with it.

The EU definitely isn't perfect, but we can't moan about it doing things we don't like when we ignore our mechanism for trying to change it.

Nor ways fishing model is a good one, we can Learn from it.

The BOE are due to say tomorrow that they think we could well do better next year than some are suggesting. Tee hee

was the vote so close that our rep not turning up made a material difference?

Perhaps he felt there was no point as it would be 27 votes against 1? And why would the other 27 vote to give up their abilty to fish in what used to be, our seas? And isn't that a the case for almost any EU law, once passed, it's essentially impossible to change it.

In any case, I refer you to my previous answer, once the EU is out of the picture, there's nowhere to hide for our politicians, the old tired excuse that "the EU did it" won't wash and that alone will ensure one heck of a lot of accountability. They have been hiding under Nanny EUs skirts for too long.

You do realize that the committees do more than just vote?

By not attending, he's never made any objections known, taking part in any discussions, or made any suggestions. He's thrown away all of his given power (whilst, of course, taking the salary).

Who knows if he could have made a material difference, but the fact is that he didn't even try.

That's a good point, and the only positive I've seen so far. Of course, they'll still have decades of "it's a remnant of the EU, it's still not our fault".

do you have a single example of where his presence would have resulted in a different outcome?

Without having been present at of all of the meetings, no.

    Do I need one?

    Let's simplify this:

If he attended, he could have made a difference.
Since he didn't attend, he didn't make a difference.

I don't mind so much that he didn't make a difference, but he didn't try. It's the same crap as someone who doesn't vote complaining about the outcome of the election, or someone who doesn't speak up when someone is asking for feedback, and then complaining.
