I was posting more in reply to the people noting that they are sometimes confused with the changing limits on a give road and can forget what speed they should be doing.

Personally, I don't speed so have never been stopped and had to pay a £100 fine. But thanks for your advice.

How exactly do you consider yourself in a position to state with such authority that "the police/courts don't really care that much about speeders anymore"?

Are you inferring that Car54 has had a speeding fine?

Maybe a visit to Specsavers is needed.

Indeed. I have a clean licence.

Those people might find a few refresher lessons more cost-effective than a new Mercedes.

I'm pretty sure lots of other manufacturers offer similar systems. IIRC it's even available on a humble Ford Focus. ;)

Velociraptor is a free app that displays the current speed limit (which it gets from Open Street Map). It can also give a warning if you are a set amount over the limit (I have mine set to 10% + 2mph).

CamerAlert requires a subscription, but provides a frequently-updated database of speed cameras (including mobile sites). You can configure it as to how far in advance it warns you, etc. It works with any navigation programme (including Google Maps).

I want something that will run always and notify me, when I am on a car. Is there anything like that? I don't want to be notified when I am walking. I also don't want to switch on the app each time I am driving.

Here's an idea. Just a thought, but maybe such a thing doesn't exist, you should write one yourself?

Or maybe, perhaps, just stay within the speed limit, eh?

Or even - don't drive unless you can take responsibility?

It's alright, he's got a six figure sum so can pay the fines.

Personally, I use AutoMagic (although you could also use Tasker, AutoMate, ITTT, etc) to automatically start CamerAlert, Velociraptor and Google Maps whenever it detects that it has connected to the Bluetooth in any of my cars. If you don't have Bluetooth, you could stick an NFC tag (if your phone supports it - my Nexus6 does) and use that to trigger your "car" profile. (I also use AutoMagic to set my volume to "high", switch off autosync for AquaMail - I don't want to receive email messages while driving - set the screen to very bright, etc, etc). When I leave the car, AutoMagic detects that the Bluetooth is no longer connected and shuts down all these applications, etc.

There is also an option in CamerAlert to start another programme when you run it, so you could set it to start Google Maps (or Waze, or whatever) when you invoke it.

    very informative thanks!

by the way, what happens if you get a speeding notice after completing a speeding awareness course few months ago? whats the consequencies?

You pay a fine, take the points, and hope your insurance company doesn't shaft you too badly.

Oh, and you learn a lesson and stop driving above the limit.

if you been through it all, why dont you give more info? how much is the fine, what are the points and the maximum allowed, and how does insurance company can charge? do I have to notify them or they get notified?

For someone so obsessed with using technology to avoid speeding fines, I'm amazed you're not savvy enough to use Google.
