I used to work near some sort of health centre which I assume is an abortion clinic and people were often outside heckling anyone going in an out.

Though I am pro choice, I do wonder why or how people allow themselves to get pregnant if they know they do not want a baby, especially if you live in a country with such strict laws. I grant that contraception can fail and rape can happen and even wanted pregnancies can develop unhealthily. However, I do know of some people who aborted because they 'just didn't want a baby'.

That's a very very sensible reason for having an abortion.

I'm not on Twitter, but I am pro-choice. Ireland has its own laws made for its own reasons by its own leaders, so I don't feel it's my place to give an opinion on abortion rights in that country. I do however hope that the organisations involved in providing abortions to Irish women make the process and the logistics as inexpensive and simple as possible.

In Ireland they know they can't just have an abortion, so they tend to be much more vigilant in using contraception than they are here.

Yet somehow, despite being so much more vigilant and knowing the difficulties they face if they need a termination, 10 women a day still end up in the UK from Ireland in this situation. (That we know of, its reasonable to assume that many more don't give their real Irish addresses.)

Its almost as if pregnancies can happen no matter how careful you are, or as if human beings aren't perfect, or as if every pregnancy isn't a fairy story from start to finish and things never change or go wrong!

I haven't followed the story very closely, was it an abortion on demand so to speak, or was it on medical grounds?

As I understand it - abortions "on demand" arent allowed in Northern Ireland. So - if one has happened there - it must have been on medical grounds.

Exactly. Our son is a condom and copper coil baby!

No, not at all, why do you think that?

If you were pregnant and did not want to be, what would you do?

(Please don't say you would never let it happen, even the most effective contraceptives with perfect use have a failure rate that means hundreds of pregnancies each year, before even getting into non-consensual sex or other circumstances.)

Failures can of course happen but we only have the word of the people involved that the contraceptive use was perfect.
