Thank you for the explanation - ever heard the expression about grandmothers and sucking eggs?

Well hey, if you're the first perfect human being and you've never ever made a mistake or forgotten to take a pill (any pill) then I take my hat off to you. You're unique.

Failures can of course happen but we only have the word of the people involved that the contraceptive use was perfect.

How can you not use a copper coil perfectly?

    Quite.

Maybe my copper coil failed because I had sex when it was in. Silly me.

I'm sure you think that I am, but this isn't just an argument on a forum, this is something real women in difficult circumstances have to put up with so I can never just ignore it.

    It's an interesting discussion anyway.

I still maintain that prevention is better than cure, and it's a shame that more people don't, because apparently we in the UK have the highest unwanted pregnancy (or is it teenage pregnancy?) rate in Europe despite having free contraception.

Coils are unreliable :( and not very pleasant to fit/remove.

They're more reliable than the snip, condoms, oral contraceptives, contraceptive injections and patches. Having them fitted and removed also is umcomfortable for some, not all.

I was talking mainly about taking the pill or other methods where client use is important - I certainly wasn't saying that contraceptives never fail.

Both of my coils worked there own way out, making it impossible for me to be sure if I was at risk of pregnancy or not. The first one was agonising, the copper one not painful at all. They are very invasive but are the longest lasting and therefore hardest to misuse
