Just realised after receiving CB from TSB for July that my offer for the 5% CB ends in five months and that as I don't reach the maximum £100 spend on each of two accounts I'm throwing away effectively 5% interest on the unused portion.

It might be useful for me and others to have suggestions of ways to make use of the cashback before it probably goes by buying gift cards etc that can be used after January 1st 2017?

I've only bought Waitrose gift cards up to now, at £30 a go valid for two years from last use. No Apple pay for me.

So Waitrose, what others have people found?

I rang a TSB advisor asked and they said it was ok to use chip and pin and I did and have received my reward of money back on spends. :)

The 5% you are saving now will be locked in a card until next year not earning interest...?

Yes but I get 5% effective interest upfront so even if I don't use the gift card for 12 months I've had 5% interest in the form of cashback:)

Sorry just to clarify, you Definately get 5% cash back on chip and pin with TSB cards ? My local Asda dosen't take Contactless and because it's a 5 min walk away I do most of my shopping there.

Out of interest anyone found an Asda that does take contactless ?

It's only for contactless, I've had chio and pin not earn cashback earlier this year and now tended to swap cards on the occasions it doesn't go through as contactless.

    ?

You certainly seem to get the cash back if the card is refused contactless and requires you to enter PIN. However that is when the contactless process was initiated and refused!
Personally I don't think you can get cashback if the retailer does not have the technology already in place because there is no way that it qualifies as contctless.

Our local one has just started taking contactless, in the last week or two.

I'm planning to see if they'll let me add money to one of their Xmas savings gift cards using contactless payment - if so, I'll load a couple in Oct/Nov for the £6 bonus they apply in November and use for the Xmas shopping

That has never happened to me. My card regularly fails on contactless and I need to put in a PIN. I made a record of these 3 occasions which totalled over 60 pounds a month of so, and I was short of around 3 pounds in cashback.

If it fails, as I know I won't get the cashback, I switch over to an AMEX @ 1.25% instead, and pin entry if the contactless fails (which happens an awful lot with TSB) doesn't pay 5%.

I can confirm that Waitrose are rolling out contactless payment to all Waitrose+Shell petrol stations as we speak. So even more opportunity for 5% back on fuel.
