Making the most of TSB contactless cashback before the end of December

I've just applied for one of these as I am thinking of trying to go completely cashless (just for kicks, but also so that I don't have to keep going to the ATM). Reading this thread it sounds like I'll always need to carry my Oyster and either another card or some cash, for all the times the transaction won't go through
. Does it really happen that often - one time in three?
The stats are different for every user. I found the more I used the card over time the more often it was accepted contactless maybe up to 20 transactions. If it was refused well you can still use it to pay with PIN so don't need another card unless its a cashback card. I just get £10 from the ATM and start again. No it doesn't happen one in three except when it happens one in three:)0 -
Today my card refused to go contactless- I had just had it in the TSB's own ATM to change the PIN about half an hour earlier. Really annoying. This happened all the time when I had card No 1 until I got a replacement
I had been told last year that if you start contactless then use the PIN you will get the cashback. That is not what I was told today.... seems the rules have changed. Now I am trying to use card No 2- I think they were a faulty batch so ordered a new card. No way am I going to be able to spend anything on it this month!
(Contactless was such a bother that I didn't activate the PIN on card 2 however now Yorkshire Pud has seen a way to buy Tesco vouchers for the future I want to use it quick before Dec 31st!)Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Good idea as you're then not spending money on unessicary purchases just to get a £5 per month back.
Just been to Tesco and my local doesn't do contactless yet, and also the Visa cards have a charge on them: so a £25 card costs £27.95.
The only card I would be interested in, is Amazon (I live in a small market town on my own: so limited interest in other retail cards), but I must say that Tesco did have a huge range of retailer and restaurant cards.
I'll have to go into town to Superdrug to get Amazon cards, I think.
Thanks to all for the suggestions, good thread, Yorkshire Pud.0 -
Funny after discussing it on here but it seems my local Asda has just got contactless in the last few days, staff seem to think it's up and running but I tried this morning on a self service checkout and it didn't work  Will try again tomorrow.
Asked about the Xmas savings cards but they haven't got any in yet ( they have to order them in ) but staff seem to think you can top up contactless
Load up 2 with £100 each in Sept ( I have 2 TSB Plus accounts, they allowed 2 at one time ) and then £44 each in Oct ( £ 144 is the maximum allowed on a Xmas savings card and only up to Nov ...Not sure exact cut off date )
With Asda £6 bonus on each and 5% of £288 for contactless =£ 14,potentially £26 up
Maybe also Add ordinary asda gift cards before contactless 5% runs out end Dec ?0 -
I have no trouble spending £200 a month with my two cards at Morisson's, Aldi, Lidl, Wilko, and my local garden centre. In Morisson's I use the self checkout and split my shopping into 3 or 4 transactions if necessary.0

My Asda has just gone contactless this week and is working, pity I have spent my £200 already.0
-
Actually I'd only be getting the Asda Xmas bonus cards to be £12 up with 2 of them or £18 on 3 ( Sept,Oct,Nov) as I can spend £200 on 2 TSB cards and still get the £10 cash back for 3 mths0

Local Tesco only became contactless (& petrol station) a few weeks ago.
Wilkinson's have a wide range of store gift cards, including their own and they are certainly contactless
Flipping card worked in there today when I was only spending £1, unlike yesterday when it refused £15 in Aldi. How annoying is that??!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Today I asked for a £10 Amazon GC in superdrug but they only do £25?
Then went to Wilkinsons and they have a very big rack of gift cards, among them Amazon GC £25, £50 and £100 (for the Apple payers).
There was also an Amazon three pack of individualy coded £10 cards so the perfect £30 and could be used as gifts or separately or together, whatever:)
Just added GC to my Amazon account and the credit expires in ten years time.0 -
If you buy gift cards (e.g. Amazon, M&S, Argos, John Lewis etc) at Morrisons, they give you 25 More points per £1, which works out at as 2.5% back in Morrisons vouchers. £200 of gift cards = £5 voucher. I use my Apple Pay to make sure I always get my 5% from TSB for my two bank accounts and new credit card. Effectively paying ahead purchases for Christmas and into next year with a 7.5% discount.0
