So you don't deny that Ryanair try to chisel money out of people or that they frequently alter the booking method to confuse gullible and fool the cocky.

Some of the charges they add are very subtle (eg the priority boarding/online checkin charge when you select zero checked bags they had before the latest revision in the booking process) so that the beginners - or people who are so clever that they think they know the system - don't notice them or assume that they can't be removed.

As to why they are so popular - if you repeat a lie often enough then people believe it's true - the lie here being that you'll get a cheap flight with Ryanair.

You might, but you need your wits about you at every step of the booking process

I agree that Ryanair are like pretty much every other company that is trying to sell a product and get us customers to fork out for extras!

I do not agree that it is Ryanair's fault that people don't check what they are doing! For goodness sake, if people value their money so much, then why on earth are they prepared to just click away without fully checking what they are agreeing to? It's the same for everything - check before you hand over your money!!!

The flight we took in August was my first with Ryanair and I did at one point think the extra charges were maybe mounting up. Soooo, instead of just continuing, I stopped for a moment and compared it with other airlines I had already checked (because again, it's daft to not compare isn't it?) and realised it was still a lot cheaper. So I went ahead and had a very good and cheap flight - no complaints at all.

At the end of the day, I wanted the cheapest flight I could get but I was not prepared to be ripped off by Ryanair or any other airlines so I was careful to check what I was agreeing to!!! It is not rocket science!!!

This stinks of the current 'blame someone else' attitude in this country. angry-smiley-030.gif

"If I rush through a booking and can't be bothered to read the T&Cs then I am fully justified in moaning about the company".

Well, imo, no - people should take responsibility for their own actions! We have advertising standards in place to protect children but adults should be able to check for themselves. It's no secret that reading the T&Cs is crucial before handing over any money to anyone.

Perhaps it's time the 'gullible' and 'cocky' started to take responsibility for their own actions - who knows, they may learn something?

i have read some nonsense about ryanair on this forum with the OP being a typical post but alan rowell comment above is about as silly as it gets

whatever you may think about ryanair good or bad, cheap flights is what they do , unless of course you have been living in cloud cuckoo land for the last 5 years and missed the fun

Well they'll need to change their terms and conditions to do that won't they? otherwise I for one will simply use the Consumer Credit Act 1974 to get my card company to put it right ...

am I right in thinking though that purchases under £50 are not covered by the Consumer Credit Act 1974?

... which reminds me ... I still need to send off another dispute form to the credit card company with a list of all the Dynamic Currency Conversions that Ryanair have processed without my permission in the past 12 months or so to get refunds processed ...

please could you explain this further?

No, it's £100, though in my experience you can query any amount with the card companies.
  • what is 5KG whenit comes to £10 each way?? hand luggage is 10KG, hold luggage is 15KG.. take less clothing or wear the heavy stuff and tie your jacket round your waist when boarding..
  • I have a question. I have booked tickets to denmark to visit my son. At the time of booking I could only get the 1p flights to go on tue and come back on thurs as it goes into the half term. I was ok with this and only taking hand luggage for that amount of time.
My son has now managed to get us another return ticket so we can fly back on saturday so having 5 days. This only cost him £15 from denmark. (with ryanair)
He has checked us in for one suitcase for the way back.
What I want to know is will I now have to pay for my suitcase in both direction when I get to Stanstead. I suppose I will or they will wonder how come I don't want to take it back. What do you think?
Also as I didn't know how to get out of the online check in at the time I paid for that. Will I now have to check in at the airport instead? Thanks

I assume you've been looking at the Web Check-in conditions ... I see no big problems at all for you ... and only a small £12 one if you really must now take a checked in suitcase out with you to Denmark for some reason? Perhaps your son now wants you to bring something in a suitcase for him? Or does he just want you to bring something back?

In the former case it looks to me like you will be charged a total of £12 on Tuesday for deciding to swap to a desk check-in (£2), and for then taking a bag on what WAS a web check-in (£10). Put it this way, I DON'T think they will try to charge you 2x£12=£24. If they query it, just be truthful and say the suitcase is your son's idea and you dont need to bring it back on Thursday and leave it at that ;).

So your outbound flight is still Tuesday and it is web check-in. To save the £12 and modest inconvenience, I suggest that you stick to the original plan if you can, DO still check-in online, and just take a 10kg cabin bag TO Denmark. If you DO take a suitcase for checking in, allow extra time to visit the Ryanair information/payments desk to agree the change (there are usually two such desks operating at Stansted ... one near E/F and one near H/J) before you go to the check-in desk (who can't accept payments).

My reading of the conditions is that you will still be given priority boarding on Tuesday whatever you decide...

Just forget your Thursday ticket completely. You simply won't be using it or that reference again after Tuesday.

On Saturday you will be checking in at the desk in Denmark using the new reference your son has booked. On this single sector back to the UK, it doesn't matter whether you bring back an extra bag (provided by your son or magicked from inside your original 10kg bag!) OR NOT. Your son has paid for one, but you are not obliged to use it. So on Saturday, the check-in procedure is the same whether you have a suitcase to check-in or not.

PS If you are going to Aarhus then it is all very relaxed at the Denmark end.

PPS plan0player, I have bought a number of one legged return sectors from Europe over the months and years, and found that Ryanair more often than not use something called Dynamic Currency Conversion without my permission to convert the foreign currency to GBP before they bill my credit card. Because I use Nationwide, it costs me at least 3% more when they do that. On principle I get Nationwide to complain to VISA about it and meantime Nationwide refund my account with the illicit overcharges. You can search the forums for 'Dynamic Currency Conversion' for more information about this 3 year old (at least) third-party-hand in your wallet phenomenum.

They aren't reminding you that the 1p no tax no fees whatever promotion was something we only saw from Ryanair for the first time this year and was short-lived. Don't hold your breath for another deal like that. It was plane crazy!

They have already run this offer twice this year! I travelled in February, July and have another trip booked in October on the 1p flights. I'm just waiting for the next one to grab a few more cheap trips! :j :D

Ryanair had a promotion earlier this year where they actually offered flights for 1p. If you chose to take hand luggage only and paid with an Electron card, as well as declining their insurance and all the other optional stuff, the flight really did only cost 1p.

The second time they ran this offer in May we weren't charged credit card fees either, although not sure whether that was a glitch on the system, but I booked 2 lots of flights and was only charged 1p per flight despite paying by credit card ;)

They've actually had 3... and I'm expected another one to appear before the year is out for February, March, April dates.

    Btw.. I LOVE Ryanair.

Whoops! that'll teach me to read to the end of the thread before posting :o

BTW, when was the third, did I miss it?
