Don't laugh.... it is an hourly room survey job ( count the people) but it is walkable from the house,  I will get my steps in, I can see the kids off to school in the morning, and will get home 2 hours after they do.  
And I get my own clipboard 📋and  work 40 minutes on and 20 minutes off (paid) every hour.  I am going to get paid to read for 20 minutes every hour!  I will take the Richard Osman book  I have been saving.

Suggested to DH he might want to plant his remaining seed potatoes so they are here to welcome him home on his return.  So off we went to H0mebase to buy soil,  and I accidentally found ys Osteospermums for 50p and lupins for 20p, and something else for 20p which looked pretty and spready,  £4 of ys plantage is now acclimatising in the yard.  Two of my pumpkin seeds appear to be coming up, still only two sweet peas though.  The mulberry bush has come back to life after identifying as a twig last year.   

The ceanothus (£3.50 Mr Tesco's) has two small blue flowers suddenly appear.  All the soil went for DH's potatoes so I will buy some more to pot the flowers up when I do the food shop.

Next door are still hammering away on the naked roof.  The roofers replaced my roof in three days.  Their house has lain roofless and trussless for the last month or more.  At least the woodwork is going up again, slowly, two weeks of banging so far, and no hint of any covering.  At least they are doing something I suppose!

Made another big pot of mung bean and coconut dahl, and this time added butternut squash and (not) beef chunks DS4 won't eat it, so I can shove whatever I want in it for the rest of us.  He can have (not)chicken nuggets and chips and salad.  I do not have the energy to argue about food.  The nuggets were a bargain - Beyond chicken nuggets 39p in The Farm of the Frozen Food shop, and found 69p stuffed crust pizzas too.  So the freezer is full of them and that will do easy 'bung it in the oven'  meals when I am working and the boys can cook for me.

It is 8.30 and still daylight.  I just brought the laundry in off the line, while DS2 dried up so that DS1 could wash up the supper dishes . This is day 2 of them helping out after supper.   I think the little chat about DH leaving in a week, and me working for the first two weeks of his absence, and them having to step up, might just have sunk in ... or they could have concussion ... either way I have not  had to do the washing up for nearly 48 hours.  

Hopefully they have given their heads a wobble and have decided to grow up.

Yesterday 2 of the 9 pumpkins had emerged, today, 6 of the 9 are up - if I get 7 of 9 I will be very happy and probably  have an illogical overly emotional human response (just for you apple!)  Still only three of the many many many sweet peas have emerged.

Laundry done, BLTs for lunch (because I honestly could not be faffed to ccok),  DH got an earlier appt for his MRI - 3pm instead of 7pm, so he has hobbled off to that. DS4 managed to get his laundry downstairs before 1pm and so it is washed and on the line.  Which reminds me, I have a mountain of laundry to sort and fold, so will go and do that quickly (speed folding! woo hoo! definitely not a spectator sport, although probably on a par with golf) and then  sit in the warm with tea and the football.

Might do baked potatoes for supper, after all, it will warm the kitchen, and does not need supervision. Bonus!
