mark55man said:@f0xh0les - thought of you as I boughtthe last batch of reindeer boa buns for our XMAS feast. 2 minutes to cook - what a complete no brainer!!DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

hi - they are still in the untested pile - as nibbles before the xmas meal. Also I can live with them being a bit yuk as we are 9 and there is only 8 buns
- I had already volunteered to miss out - now feeling smug
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

The buns were perfectly fine as long as you like hoisin!! They do look better than they taste, but they still are fine as a nibble and DH was not expecting much from them and was really quite pleasantly surprised. Until I told him the price.Work is total madness. The lunchtime rush at the tills lasted until 7pm. It was insane. There is hardly any C-word stuff left, and they have started to put out the healthy eating, New Year fitness stuff and swimwear already (bonkers!!) while normal people are still wandering in asking for 'Gentlemen's Slippers' as gifts, and we sold out last week already. Hot water bottles - not a hope for the last 2 weeks, and even the microwavable ones disappeared ten days ago. Even the toiletries are depletedSo last night I missed my bus because of the idiot manager agreeing to let me go a mere 10 minutes late, and then not opening the door for another five minutes, so I had a half hour wait for 'the safe bus' as my phone battery had died (or I would have taken a different bus and walked up the side of the park and under the railway bridge and got home at 10.20pm instead of 10.30pm), but DH was having kittens as I was expected at 10pm and was not answering my phone. - He has a terrible cough at the moment, as does DS4.So a quick cheese toastie for supper and hopped into bed. This morning was a full hour of (clean) laundry folding, a bit of bedroom tidying, chatting nonsense with teenagers, cleaning the bathrooms and putting the towels back, putting more laundry on and being glad it can go out on the line, AND taking the central heating off 'continuous' setting, and putting it back on to the 'walk into the kitchen and hit the +1 boost button next to the boiler when you feel cold' setting. God alone knows how much the last fortnight has cost (mostly because I was at work for 39 hours last week) but strangely, the heating was fixed at work yesterday - we have frozen for the last fortnight, and when I rocked up in my thermals yesterday I honestly nearly suffered heat exhaustion, but I bravely and manfully struggled onwards, and was glad of it in the piddling rain at the bus stop. But I still do not understand what those weird jade body scraping tools (gua sha massage tools) are actually for, and what using a jade roller on your face is honestly going to do for you- I have been on the beauty section for a couple of days last week, does it show?
and honestly, there is not one thing there that is necessary for a good or fulfilling life. It is bonkers. Voodoo Woo Hoo Nonsense. But they still keep buying them!!
I am utterly sure my little sojourn into the world of retail is not going to change my attitude to all this consumerist nonsense. But it seems they keep on falling for it. Don't get me wrong, there are some nice blankets and throws and rugs, and the coats are a good price. I have bought bamboo socks for the kids Christmas stockings, and a fluffy dressing gown for DH but that is it really.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Today was fab, left poor DH and his cough at home and went to town in my car - parking was £1 for the whole day as it is a public holiday. Drove in, went to work, drove a young girl who works with me home because there are NO buses in LeShire today. None. They stopped at 6pm on Christmas Eve.....AND I had to scrape Ice off my windscreen this morning.Earned £80, spent £1 on parking.Lunch was a cup soup (from my bag) and a mice pie (free from work) and a sachet of oat latte (another freebie). Came home before 8pm and DH had made 'Boxing Day Pie' from all the leftovers. Love that man!!Only working from 4pm tomorrow, so have plenty of time to strip beds and do laundry, make food and feed people, and clean stuff. Those are my plans. What else happened today.... erm.... well, I did turn down a permanent position at work. I am so not interested in a contract. The customers are dirty articles, and there is too much stealing going on. Besides, my February is chock-a-block and I need to be at home for it as DH is away to foreign parts for 5 days, and someone has to feed the kids For the love of Pete, won't someone think of the poor children!!!
.
Getting over the disappointment of receiving deodorant from m-i-l, and anti wrinkle cream from s-i-l, and more anti-wrinkle cream from mil's sister. I am glad I spent £25 and bought myself lovely almond scented soaps, and a mug, and a lovely platter, and a calendar for my work, and DH got me a E.Bridgwater family wall calendar which is weekly, and fab, and has 6 columns in it - one for each of us!!! yay!!! and I love it already. The kids bought me bath bombs. DH bought me a box of 9 handmade chocolates. It is such a shame I am an utter peasant. I would have been just as happy with a veg0 bar, but I love that he thought of me and got me something lovely. They are very pretty. I am a chocolate philistine (my punk band name).Still no rota as yet for w/c 01/01/23. Another major reason I could not possibly work there long term.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
