I have been out done the shopping in Her Al's and Herr Lid's stores, and The Wading bird shop. Start work 12.00 end at 9.30. Still no rota past next Friday.

Not even tried to make good food choices the last week, had chips, lots of bread, and a whole bottle of wine, and went to a restaurant for dinner,  and had coffee and cake with s-i-l
Still 12.9. not put on an ounce. ... Will try and make good choices this week and see what occurs.......

Just checked my UGuv tax page, and it shows my photo sales job wages for the last 3 gigs, so that definitely will be paid tomorrow  - as they have bothered to declare it.   and DH's housekeeping is a certainty for coming in tomorrow as well, so that is 4 out of 5 wages coming in. Should be just over £2k.

I really am not convinced the £1,500 odd owed by TK's Clothes Shop is going to hit my bank account.  Is that odd of me?  I mean I really was not surprised last month when the money was not there, but surely I should be pretty certain it will appear this month, shouldn't I?  Because really I am not.  Suspicious old bat that I am.  There is no record of a new employer on my tax account you see, and that really does make me suspicious.

I wouldn't be surprised to find they are using an agency to do their wages so probably do everything in house & have several (I've forgotten how many) days to actually notify HMRC.  Those that do their own often just do them & press send, to both HMRC & their bank.  I do hope they don't still keep you waiting.

I am paid! Everyone who owes me anything has paid up.  The taxman will refund me what they have taken in April, and I will use that refund to top up my NI contributions for 2021-2022 and get another year of state pension eligibility for £215 leaving me 6 more years to contribute (I think).  That is the plan anyway.

Last night on my break I talked a few of the (much, much) younger girls through how to check their payslips online, why it was important, and to keep a running note of how many hours they work, so they can make sure the numbers match.   Not one of them knew their hourly pay rate. Or how many hours they had worked. Or roughly how much they were expecting to hit their bank accounts. 

Told one of the girls that I was not interested in working there after January, and she just looked totally confused, and asked why I was doing such a good job if I was not hoping to get a permanent position   Strange attitude to have, I thought.

Anyway, paid off the cc bill, all the other bills go out tomorrow, I just made another £11 on P/ac and I am going to spend it on two packs of horrifically expensive (in my world, anyway) S&M reindeer decorated bao buns (£7 for 8 buns!!), to have after we decorate the tree tomorrow night when the kids come home from school.  Miso noodle soup (literally pence), spring rolls (ys), and bao buns (£14!!).  What you save on the swings, you spend on the roundabouts - still going to check if there are any ys ones tonight.  They actually made me laugh out loud in the foodhall when I saw them.

Today I am going to get dressed (been up since 6am, but still in dressing gown mode) and clean the top floor, and hope to reach the middle floor by lunch time and finish the bathrooms by 2pm.  Don't really want to spend much until the bills go out tomorrow, there is plenty left over, but still it is a mind-set isn't it?  The front room has remained mostly tidy since s-i-l left, I still need to do my postal survey admin tasks (lots of boxes to prep & send this week), so I will be in a good position to venture into the December cupboard (0.5m high. 1.5 m wide, 2m deep) tomorrow morning.

There. A Plan.  and, as with all good plans, it starts with getting socks on.

It is built into a space above a short corridor @apple_muncher. So I am usually up a ladder,  balancing a suitcase on my head whilst turning like a jewellery box ballerina. To be honest I am surprised every time I don't fall off.  If I crawled in, I would never get out.

Finally a day off!  Good grief people are panic buying at work,  we are taking ridiculous sums of money each and every day, and Friday-Tuesday are off the scale. Understaffed, so picked up an extra 4 hours yesterday on top of my normal shift.

Roofer turned up, quote was good, then added VAT and it goes up to £8k. At least we can afford it, and then the  mercury plummets (are thermometers still made of mercury? I assume so...) Brrrr! 

Thermals saved me at work, under my jeans. Was very glad of the work gloves as it was too cold not to wear them.

Today's plan is to speed clean the top two floors. Head off to volunteer. Hit the charity shop circuit, come home and make something nice for dinner with a pudding.

Fold the laundry, return to all owners, dress the living room properly, and DO NOT AGREE TO WORK EXTRA HOURS TOMORROW when someone rings me at 7pm on my day off.  A routine is developing....

So, a top down cleaning routine (of the house, not a topless cleaning routine, too flippin cold for that) as soon as I get rid of these kids.

They stopped making them when I was a child due to the risk of breakage (they can make you very ill). It’s typically coloured alcohol these days, although my parents still have their mercury ones.

In other news, after scoring an illicit C-vid  jab in the back of a van on a supermarket carpark, DH has started to accept more campus based departmental jollies, so he is out of the house today, on my one weekday off. He has bailed on our lunch date! Book number 1 has been written and first draft sent to the publishers, and book number 2 is to begin next week.  2 faculty/departmental get togethers have been accepted, another conference have hit him up to present at, and he is rather jolly at the minute. I think a lot  of it is because he is now able to donate 10% of his income to charity, now the mortgage is gone. He was feeling guilty that we are in a good position when most of his friends are struggling (my suggestion that they should all have married me did not go down as well). So he is keeping his eye on a site set up by one of his other friends to fund other people in their little online community who are having a hard time. Whatever gets you through  the night. 

I am going to make a start on the Xmas shopping next week.  I heard Fairytale of New York on the radio at the Post Office yesterday for the first time, and Kirsty means it is Christmas.
