Finally, I have confirmation that s/g did not get her pension for the last 2 months of her life, and there is a cheque on the way to her estate.  I also have another quarterly insurance policy payment that came out 3 days before she died coming back. Between the two it is nearly £2k to add to her estate. Not to be sniffed at.  Well done me.  Tracking down policies like Sherlock H0lmes and his pet deerstalker.

I am currently about £1,300 down on the whole 'managing her estate' deal. So I will not be able to make an o/p on the mortgage this month.  Last month I was absolutely loaded on the 1st, this month I am going to have to transfer savings back into my checking account as there is not  even enough leftover to cover even the food bill.....and that is before the credit card bill for the petrol and boat to Ireland comes in next month.  I know I will get it back, but still, it chafes having to take money out of savings for this.   At least I will make £500 for the 4 days I work next month, that should set me back on the right path until probate gets sorted and money divided.    Which is motivation to get  on with selling things on the B00k of Face and The Bay of Eee.   Roll on deed of probate!

Flushed with yesterday's success (pension + insurance refund), I thought, hang on a minute, s/g had  a policy that paid out for hospital stays, but the letter was only a refund of her quarterly charge, not for any claim.  I had already contacted Send All Geriatrics Abroad about it, was told to send in the dates, but had heard nothing back, so got on to them again this morning, to be told I needed to talk to A.X.A who underwrite the policy (nobody had told me that in the previous 4 phone calls!)  so got through to them, and now have a claim form filled in and submitted for the 3 hospital stays (in different hospitals) s/g had before she died. Apparently she will have a payment for every single night she had NHS treatment rather than private treatment...bonkers!

So that is another thing tracked down and sorted.

The mortgage is sticking at £73,548.32,  I would normally have paid off the £548.33 as an o/p but I cannot this month as I am skint.  Current budget is £50 a week.   Still need new PE kits for 2 boys as they are too small but will do them for the last 3 days of school.

Will do a half year round up later.  Too knackered right now to even consider it.

You should be able to claim your expenses against the estate, and if there is money in it, you should get it immediately.

Not got probate yet so all the bank accounts containing her money are still frozen - glad I got the draft for the funeral done before they did, and that was only possible because I was on first name terms with the manageress, and the bereavement officer, and I had spent 2 hours with them the week before her death cancelling all her cards and  doing the Power of Attorney. The solicitors attitude is 'let them wait'.

It is short term fiscal tightness, but the bills are still coming in, the closing bill for the telephone, the last electric bill, travel etc It will all come back to me probably toward the end of this month (fingers crossed!) but the next fortnight might see me using the cc a lot.  With the price of everything rising, I have been paying things off as they come in (and keeping receipts and records) rather than telling them to wait.  Small businesses like the stonemason and her gardener I have paid immediately. It is not right to keep people waiting in the current climate from April to July/August when they have done the work.

So I got up, checked my 'work wardrobe' for the week after next, found a pair of trousers has lost a button in the wash, and one white top has a pen mark on it, so will sort those out today and possibly buy a white bra/cami top, and that will be me  ready to go and be a productive member of society (in Bolton).

Next month I will probably be fine.  It is just annoying it is the start of the kids holidays and I am on the verge of raiding the savings account because 2 days in, the budget is gone.  Car tax is  paid though!   However, the freezer is full, I have all the lunchbox tat til the end of term, the fridge is full of greens and oranges and yellows, and I have a sack of spuds in the pantry.

 I will not think about uniform until August,  they might grow another 6 inches over the next 7 weeks (only DS4 is shorter than me now).

I also don't do shoes and uniform until much closer to return to school - pesky things seem to grow over the hols each year, so it makes much more sense! 

Only DS3 is shorter than me here - he is going to be delighted once he is no longer the shortest. DD is not looking forward to when her baby brother (almost 11.5 years age difference) is taller than her 😆😁

The in-laws trip over for the funeral seems to be turning into a week long stay. DH does not want to offer them somewhere to stay with us.  Luckily it is 2 days after I come home from working away. 

I foresee a lot of cleaning and tidying in my future

I presume DS1 is now home from uni so where did they think there was space for them at yours anyway?
"oh dear all the spare space is filled with boxes to be sorted of SGs belongings, I just won't be able to get that done before your visit due to working away. Hotels are available at X Y & Z"

I got a copy of the Deed of Probate from the solicitor this morning!!!

It is dated 22nd of June.... do they think I just would not notice??   Anyway, nothing can realistically be done until after I come back from working away, and after the solicitors reopen after 18th.    I am kicking that particular can down the road and will deal with it when I am able to get over there and see them.

What is nice to know is that I will be able to give s/g's friends their bequests and they can enjoy them while the sun is shining and the birds are singing. 

I have no idea why they want to come over for a week, the week before I said I was going to be over there.... it is bizarre.  Except that they want to see DH, and let's face it, he escapes every chance he can get.

So progress is being made. Yay!   My weight loss did not beat probate. Hopefully it will beat house sale.

What's new with me?  Why thank you for asking!

I am doing battle with the medical records departments of 3 separate hospitals in 3 separate trusts to try and get a copy of s/g's discharge summaries.     I thought I would be dead sneaky and go through her g/p. but they do not keep records after death for more than 30 days before they send them off to some big medical records repository in the sky.... so back to the phone to talk to people at 3pm on a Friday afternoon before marching season kicks off properly, and half the country take the week off. 

 One out of 3 agreed and gave an email  address to submit a request. I left an answerphone message for the secretary of the consultant s/g was under (oooh 'err! matron) in another......and the third just rang out and rang out so I got in touch with the ward she was in, as she died there, so did not get a discharge letter, whether honourable or dishonourable.  Either way I can wait for the hospitals to get back to me now.

I am making up a tip pile as well.  I have plans to attack  the front 'garden' (ha!) behind the private hedge once the tip pile goes. 

I walked down to the wading bird store, bought some food that can be made with only a kettle in a hotel room - not so hard, I make up  10 boxes a week like that at the foodbank -  transferable  skills!  or does not require cooking.  3 mile round trip and was home before it got properly hot, and made lunch.

Poor DS3 went playing football after school yesterday and by 4pm he was a lobster-man. Why will they not listen? Redheads + Sun =  Ouch!!  When will they learn??? I have told them often enough to avoid the dangerous radiation in the sky. He is not happy he is peeling. Poor love.

Got sent an email to get a free Factor 50 sunblock and an aftersun bar via the F&F railcard, just pay P&P, so did that too. It is one of those plastic free places and very trendy.
