I have clawed back £30 from the savings account shunt that I did at the start of the month. It covers my share of the breakdown insurance, if I get some money back from DH then I am fine, but I need fuel as DH borrowed my car yesterday (his battery was flat) and so I will need to fill up sooner than I had hoped. I am not running out of petrol for anyone! So with the exception of the credit card bill which is on its way, I am fine for the rest of the month. That will be the only thing carried over from January, and it is less than £150 and will be paid on the 1st Feb. So I will be in good shape for February, the shortest month. 28 days between paydays.Car booked in for a service but should be covered by incoming child benefit (the car benefits the children!).Managed to only be 2 hours behind where we should be on the schoolwork today!Soup for lunch, biryani for supper with a pack of cumin flavoured pastry cracker snack things I found in the pantry, going to make a chocolate cake to get rid of some chocolate ice cream in the freezer - the chocolate ice cream will be on the side of the cake, not in the cake. Just in case you were wondering. I am using stuff up and thinking of DH having to make lunch for them all tomorrow while I am out. If he only has to warm up a few wraps and throw cake at them in between teaching - because on the one day of the week I am out 9-2.30 he has most of his teaching - So really I am just being nice. Might make scones for them as well while the oven is on.This afternoon I will be cleaning the house from top to bottom. I am going to fix the bathroom door (Mr Somebody has stood leaning on the top corner and so it has dropped slightly and the scraping when opening and closing it is doing my head in) by taking it off and gluing some toothpicks in the bottom of the screw hole (thus making it smaller) and replacing the screw in the same hole. This should work, as the door fits fine if I tighten the screw, but it drops again after 2 or 3 hours. It is a tiny 1mm drop but it causes the problem.I am going to be hammering more stuff at the weekend. There are some things on my list that have been there for just too long now. DS4 is doing 'recycling' as his project this term, and there are so many jobs I can get off my list while pretending we are doing 'fun recycling project' homework. Plus he gets to play with a hammer!4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

I'm glad you have told DH about ex-housemates wife, it will be easier for you as you will no longer need to avoid subjects which could lead to mentioning ex-housemate or wife.
On the plus side, the news didn't cause DH to have a meltdown.
My OH likes to play top trumps if I mention I've had a bad nights sleep, his is always worse. if I feel unwell and mention my symptoms his will always trump them. I should test him with my PMS symptoms and see how many of those he can beat 🤣

Oh dear! The look on his face when you diagnose his manipausal symptoms. I would get more chocolate in for him, and a hot water bottle. A bit of empathy goes a long way.DH gets it from his mum, she is a terrible one-upper, if you stub your toe, hers is broken, if you have a headache, she has a migraine etc etc. The funny thing is she does not know she does it, but I stupidly mentioned it to DH in front of the kids, and now when she starts they just fall about the place giggling, which makes her think they are laughing at her (imagined) illness, and she gets all huffy. DS3 memorably asked in the middle of dinner one day 'Do you know anyone who is not sick or dying, Grandma?' Tumbleweed moment. Oh the daggers!I have just taken a chocolate bundt out of the oven and it looks amazing and smells heavenly. As expected, Mr Somebody who helped himself to extra slices of cake last night was seen and heard by nobody - not Mr Nobody, just no other person willing to admit to being the sneaky cake thief.I am now on the sofa being quiet as DH is recording his online lecture talks, and we all have to be like quiet little mice, then he is in meetings with students til 4.30. So tea and sofa time it is, with a bit of planning for the rest of the month. Nice to have a quiet afternoon.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

I love ds3 question. Has she continued in the same vein since? Or moved on to happier subjects?

Nope, one story was a friend of hers just recovered from chemotherapy , whose husband had abandoned her with 2 children, and run off with her sister, and who had just had her car written off by an uninsured driver while she was in the post office, and on top of that her cat had been diagnosed with depression and she was spending a fortune on colloidal silver for the beastie to strengthen its immune system because she couldn't cope if the cat died because the children would have taken it harder than their dad leaving them, and when they got home from the vets, the budgie had hanged itself on its bell, and they do bell ringing on Sundays at the church up the road, and the kids are in tears every time they practice , so now they have to move house and the kids are in therapy.... and every single person she talks about is like that. You get the entire life story and every bad thing that has ever happened to them. So it is really no surprise the kids are making faces at each other and trying not to laugh.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
