But I can't even get an 11 year old to do his schoolwork!!

We had a small drama (DS3 DramaQueen) on Tuesday night,  ' there is water running down the inside of my window' says DS3, at 11pm 2 hours after being sent to bed.  Cue me grabbing the ladders, and DH running up the stairs convinced the sky was falling in like Henny Penny.  It was raining heavily on the front of the house and he is in one of the top floor rooms which are in the attic, and there was the tiniest drop of water running down from the top of his window.  So while I was at work on Wednesday, DH got out the silicone sealant and sealed the very top of the window.  5 minute fix. Annoying,  as he has a fab roller blind  (blue footed boobys)  https://www.blinds-2go.co.uk/roller-blinds/16654/booby-bird-sapphire.html   and it now  has a water stain on it.  But it will be sealed on the outside next time we have scaffold up and a new roof and guttering.   I suspect it was just raining so heavily (it was torrential) on the front, that the gutter backed up and overflowed back on to the roof, and it ran down the double glazing unit, and in an airhole or something.   The units are airtight, but the outer casings are not, and I suspect a little bit of sealant has been pecked off, or has come lose with the frosts.  It happens.  Silicone sealant is your friend in these matters.

Supper tonight was Katsu curry.  DH cooked, he fried his potato chunks, then peeled the garlic, totally forgot what he was doing and lobbed the garlic in with the potatoes. So whole cloves of  fried garlic.  It was lovely!   So I let him have the last beer in the fridge as he has just finished an important departmental thing he spent 8 hours on today, and his need was so much greater than mine.   Then Deadp00l 2 for a little light relief after a heavy week.

Love that blind! One of DS1's favourite books at the moment is "You're Called What?!" and is about the odd named creatures lining up at the name changing office and of course the blue-footed booby is at the head of the queue. My personal favourite is the pink fairy armadillo which just looks very pretty.

Is it a Velux style window? If it is could you open the window and apply the external sealant if you have a period where you are when it isn't raining.

DS3 is nearly 13 and still loves his booby blind.  It is awesome.

I woke up this morning after a very late night or maybe an early morning -went upstairs at 1.30 - and realised I had not turned the heating off last night.  Oops! and it has snowed! There is about half an inch of it but melting rapidly - it always put you in a good mood to open the curtains to a blanket of snow.  Even a tiny one.  The heating bill is going to be properly massive.  I am heating the house like (gulp!) 'a normal person', who is not MSE.  I suppose as long as it does not become a habit, I can absorb the cost this winter, everyone is at home, so the heating needs to be on - even if DS2 has his radiator turned up to 5 and sits hugging the thing.  His room is like a sauna, which is odd as he does not like it in summer when it is hot, seems he is turning into a hothouse flower like the rest of them.

An enormous heron has just swooped down and landed on the roof of the house across the road.  Sat on the chimney.  How lovely!  Now the rest of the animals can come on over and  clean my kitchen like Walt Disney promised.

No it isn't a velux, it is a long tall one.

Argh, that's annoying about the blind. Is it worth taking it to the dry cleaners to see if they can get the stain out?

Boo to the window not being a velux, on this occasion.
I too like it when everything is covered in snow especially on a day when I don't need to leave the house. I feel this is partly as it hides any messes and imperfections but more importantly, it reflects the light back making it bright.

A heron has been visiting our next door neighbours garden recently. Magnificent birds.

Oh dear it all just went totally T1ts up here!

DS1 has spent the last week not doing his personal statement for his UCAS form.  He has also not been doing his Extra Credit Project thing.  DH  has been trying to help him out, he nods, smiles, says thanks, and then goes back to his bedroom and does Sweet FA...  the deadline is tomorrow.  He says he is probably not going to do it.  He says he is not sure he wants to do the course, not sure what he wants to do - he has  no idea about anything.  Totally calm, totally unbothered.  Staring at you, in silence.   No plan.... just not that.  'I don't know' is all he will say, and 'probably not'.

DH just announced this feels like an abusive relationship, all they do is sit with their hands out and refuse to help out with anything in return.  He is in a total state.  Poor thing.  All he wants is the best for them, but they will not do anything at all for themselves.  Not their laundry, not tidying their rooms, not the washing up, not their school work ...  literally nothing at all. 

 I  just do not know!

  A spell working might do DS1 the world of good.  He is incapable of being anywhere on time, when he did leave the house and have to be at college, he would sit around for 3 hours and wait for me to pick up his brothers at the school next door rather than have to get on a bus for 15 minutes, he is utterly passive,  totally lazy really, I just do not know anything tonight.  

Apart from that DH is likely to explode.   It is not a good night.  There may still be fireworks.
