DS1 would rather not do something, than to do it but get it wrong. At least that is what DH thinks, I just think he is a lazy toad waiting for someone else to do it for him. He is trying my patience now. It is like he is preparing himself to fail before he has even started.
The 2 smallest still want to cook, they are doing puddings this week - DS4 wants to do shortbread snowballs and DS3 wants to do biscotti, but DS4 had decided there are now another million things he does not eat at this phase of the moon - today it was mushrooms, and pesto, and hollow pasta. DS2 has no interest, he did help with lunches while he was isolating, and DS1 only wants to cook curry (DS4 will not eat curry if there is a C or a B in the month). They will be cooking more over the holidays.
I am outlawing the snacking when they come home from school as it is turning into multiple rounds of sandwiches each and competitive eating, so the soup pot is coming out again, and supper is turning into tea-time instead. So evening meal will be at 4.15 - 5.00 and they can have a hot chocolate or half a toasted sandwich or something at 7pm.
I got up today at 6am, and the tv was on in the kitchen, the lights were on, someone had been down during the night, eaten c0c0p0ps and left a dirty bowl on the table along with the cereal box, but nobody was there .... schp00ky! and nobody will admit to being the culprit. Everyone came down and ate breakfast at 7.15 ....... So we have an invisible midnight muncher lurking about the place. I really don't want to have to put a lock back on the pantry door (there was a yale lock on it when we moved in!) I have the feeling it is DS4 and at 10 years old he cannot be having 2 breakfasts, his packed lunch, 2 sandwiches when he comes home, an evening meal and pudding, and randomly asking for snacks 25 minutes after eating more than I do at a meal time! He is going to end up twice the size of the 36 bus to Bolton.
I have a feeling DS2 might choose biology, criminology and psychology for A levels.
Sounds like a recipe for a serial killer, or a pathologist, or a crime writer.

That sounds like a nice mix of subjects for DS2. I wish I'd done different subjects in the main. I'd still do Art, but in hindsight not sure about history (loved social history for GCSE with the Industrial Revolution etc but we did loads of kings, queens, empties and various dynastic marriages for a-level, none of which i found very interesting, ), and not sure about Media, we were the first year it was offered and frankly the teachers were a bit clueless. My first year of my degree was largely spent rehashing what I'd done in the prev 2 years alevels as it was a media degree and most hadn't done it at a-level. I wish I'd done Chemistry for one. None of which relate to what i do now in any way shape or form. DS1 sounds like one of my cousins, he thought he'd done badly in a single exam in his finals, so just didn't bother going to the rest 🤷♀️ Midnight Muncher sounds like a case for Scooby Doo and the Mystery Gang 😁
The chocolates have finally arrived!! So they have been wrapped nicely and boxed and are ready to be posted off tomorrow morning - that leaves 15 days for them to get to Ireland and Cornwall. I need to do the cards tonight (sigh! ) but they were ys last year in January so cost pennies. My charity baking zines arrived as well, so those are going to a few friends as a surprise gift.
DS4 is having his Xmas meal at school tomorrow, but he is on packed lunches so I have been asked to put something 'special' in there. Well ys strawberries have duly been covered in chocolate, and I have made mutant reindeer - choc covered rice crispie rounds, with a glace cherry nose, and marshmallow eyes and a blob of chocolate for pupils - I do not have any pretzels, so they do not have antlers, but they look proper scary mutant freaks. I am going to have to answer questions every time somebody opens the fridge door.
I only have two more items to post this year for my postal survey thing I do.
Tomorrow is volunteering all day, I have come in under budget this week by £27 so I will shunt it into savings and forget it is there. Another mortgage o/p of £11.55 will mean I have paid off £1,200 extra this year.
Just got the decreasing life insurance thing documents we had to take out when we bought this place, and if either of us snuffs it, the mortgage will be paid off, and one of us will have nearly £25k as a lump sum because of all the overpayments I have been making. The other policy document has not come - I expect it will come tomorrow.
No news on whether school will shut down a week tomorrow, or if they have to go in on the last Friday. So there are either 6 or 7 days left of the school run. I cannot wait for the last one. I had real trouble getting out of bed this morning. Stupid peri-menopause, I woke up feeling like I had been sat on by a rhinocerous, every inch of me ached, and every muscle hated me. I was so tired from being awake randomly throughout the night, I took the kids to school, came straight home, had a cup of tea and a couple of panad0l and went back to bed and slept until lunchtime. I have not had that since the start of the first lockdown in March. I did not miss it. I hope it gets the message and goes the flip away again. Can't be bothered with it. I have stuff to do!

Doctors, B12, B6, B complex, D3. Or assortment thereof. Life is far too short to allow it to weigh you down with this carp. Suffering just because we are female is not an option. Well it shouldn't be & we certainly shouldn't let it. I would stomp for HRT but not everyone wants to go that route. Although I was well over 60 before they "persuaded" me to come off it (I paid more than one price), my sister is still on the patches at over 70. The oestrogen (sp) helps protect you from the effects (only the effects that is one of the reasons men suffer more) of the virus according to a recent report. Although it was suggested but unproved back in April.
I am completely fine this morning @badmemory I have not had any of that nonsense for over 6 months so it just hit me hard yesterday. Will pick up some random 'magic lady vitamins' or whatever they label them as at the weekend when I am in the health food shop.

Have spent the last week reading your diary from start to finish and have thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I’m quite gutted I’m up to date now. I feel like I’ve binged watched a box set and now have to wait for the weekly episodes.
I remember the struggles with my eldest son trying to make him understand how important his GCSE results were as he would carry them through the rest of his working life. But they can’t see the future at that age, or even think further than a week ahead. Luckily, he got an apprenticeship as an Electrical Engineer and started it a week after he sat his last GCSE. That was 14 years ago. He’s been a self employed Electrician for the last 7 years and is doing really well for himself. I’m so proud of him. My youngest, on the other hand is a complete nightmare. He’s 13 years old and does the bare minimum he can get away with at school and at home. His life revolves around his PS4. He doesn’t even go out and reek havoc like I used to at his age. Him and his mates are all holed up in their bedrooms all connected via headsets like hermits. I dread to think how anti-social these kids will be when they grow up and have to deal with real people face to face on a daily basis.
Anyhoo, enough of me hijacking your thread with my world, let’s get back to yours...
Hi Legs! I probably haven't got round to doing half the stuff I waffle on about doing. Nice to have you onboard
DH has mentioned 2 jobs at other universities in the last 3 weeks (eeek!) so best get on with it eh?
I think that is what we are for, I make a point of 'conversation practise', whenever we meet on the landing... or in the car .... or when I wake them up, or wherever he can't easily escape really. They just look utterly bemused - Mum, you bought this jumper........ I know you like it...... why are we talking about my jumper anyway?... I think it is hilarious.
I am making up Xmas bags at the f/b today so everyone gets everything they need except the meat and the fresh veg, - the veg will be provided on 21st and Xmas Eve, and making up bags of toiletries as we have not done that in a while and we have a lot of stock in. Should be fun anyway. Apart from that I am not doing much, just cleaning the house ready for the weekend and ONLY MAKING THE XMAS PUDDING!!!! My fruit is getting drunk (sherry this time) in a big glass bowl in the kitchen, and I have put in 3 glace cherry depth charges (only half of us like them) to teach them about probability - everything is a learning experience!
SIX school runs left to do!! Neither school is breaking up on the Thursday as the govt suggests, as the inset day is not a holiday, it is a preparation day for my kids learning . Public school education shows sometime don't it?
Not yet heard any conspiracy theories about Boris having assassinated Babs in order to hide his lack of a Brexit deal

I expect that the workplace will have changed completely by the time those doing GCSEs and even A-Levels / Degrees really hit it for real. I can't see businesses all going back to full time office working / interaction ever after it's been demonstrated people can still effectively work from home and businesses work out how much that will save them in facilities budgets. There's days when I am working where I don't speak to anyone bar the cat for the entire day so needing social interaction skills seems to be going obsolete Even trades spend days with their heads stuck under sinks / cars / cabinets etc so really only need to illicit the odd grunt or teeth suck to get by Based on that, seems the kids will be fine (all to be read partly tongue in cheek but partly true)
I have just received a letter from school about DS2s attendance - he
has had 4 days off school due to illness - 2 days with a wickedly
disgusting head cold, and 2 days due to the school policy of 48 hours
non attendance after vomiting. So when they take out all the time off
due to covid related isolation...... of the number of days he could
have attended since September he is only on a 93% attendance average, so
they are threatening action if he drops below 90% due to my failure to
send him to school. I am beyond livid. I am afraid I was not terribly
kind to the poor lady on the phone taking messages. It was totally not
her fault, per se but the 'it is an automated letter triggered by below 95%
attendance' does not excuse the person who took it from the printer,
checked it, folded it, put it in an envelope, and sent it. That bit is
not automated. So the wuss head of year left an answerphone message
while I was driving the kids home (coward!) at 3.15 and had gone when I
rang him back at 3.30 (again, coward!) So it seems they can send my
boy home for 14 days due to sitting near someone who tests positive, and
only provide the homework, none of the teaching, and will not accept
him back even with a negative test, but if I keep him off due to actual
physical illness I am not taking his education seriously. Honestly I
was about ready to take someone's head off.
I will tell them I am no
longer going to inform them of illness, or respecting their 48 hour
D&V policy as it is detrimental to my son's education. They said
so. I have a letter. They can take it up with the Attendance
Improvement Team. I will happily refer them. Bunch of Funsters.
