I'm so glad someone else thinks those Ariel pods reek! My Mum got some free with a new washing machine and bequeathed them to me (she has allergies) - I could smell the washing through the closed airing cupboard door 😮! Very unnerving!

Thank god it is not just me! You know how you can almost taste the smell?  Properly odd that nobody else thinks these things are awful. This is the smell that other people's kids' school jumpers smell of when DS4 comes home with the wrong kit, so they must be popular with somebody.   They lasted for 2 experimental washes.  They will not be used again on anything other than floor cloths and cleaning rags or decorating throws.    Maybe the smell goes away a bit more if they are line dried?  It is like my laundry has been possessed.

Right, off to bed for me, I totally stripped down one of the divan halves this afternoon, and it looks like it is going to be perfect for what I want it for.  

Busy day tomorrow cleaning, sawing, and welcoming the new cooker.  Not going to spend a thing until November.

It’s not just you... if friends stay who use them the bedding is washed straight away and line dried for ages as the smell transfers from their nightclothes. Likewise when I stay with them, the bedding almost asphyxiates me and I have to wash my nightclothes as soon as I get home. As for when my scruff has been washed in them (or tide in the US) while I’ve been away ... it takes about 6 months for the smell to go. 

I usually use soap nuts, or eco powder/liquid and vinegar - so there’s no smell.

I detest smelly laundry detergent. It makes my sinuses hurt and aggregates ds' eczema.

I'm glad it's not just me! I don't understand why companies think I need my clothes to smell. I don't want them to smell of anything. I'm perfectly capable of making myself smell nice without putting it through my clothes.

But then I also associate smelly clothes with chemicals and like perfumes, I generally come out in hives for most of them.

We to use eco powder/liquid and vinegar as well, so no over powering odour.

I have just remembered a neighbour my sister had about 15 years ago who used pungent laundry products, if their washing was on the line and the wind was blowing in the wrong direction she couldn't use her garden as the smell was over powering.

@foxholes you mentioned you are planning on keeping the shelves from your old cooker. We are getting a free new to us cooker which is the same make as our existing one which is only fit for scrap, I plan to keep:
The pan supports
The burners
The shelves
The shelf supports
The grill pan

I have just cleaned the old cooker top in case I have to leave it on the front for the council to recycle. It was too embarrassing to leave out in the condition it was in - I have not cleaned it since I decided it was leaving, and dh splashes everything everywhere, so really it was awful.   Not disconnecting it until the actual cooker is here -  been there done that (had a last minute cancellation and had to buy a takeaway for dinner).   They say they will be here between 11 and 1, and The House of Swede say they will be here tomorrow between 7.30am and 11am.   I have the strangest urge to buy a cheese plant.   Bit random but thought I would throw that out there.

All the talk of a national lockdown this morning is a month late, in my opinion, if they wanted to 'save Christmas'.  What nonsense. They were happy to cancel Eid the night before, which I am reliably informed is like Muslim Christmas.  I do wonder if Boris wanted his kids to go away for their half term holiday and decided to make an announcement when that was over.

Right then, on with the hoovering and tidying and one last load of non smelly laundry - it has taken 4 days but the smell has gone from the area around the washing machine.

 I can give a thumbs up for the new (ys) nordic oat milk (no added sugar), very nice. I will try it in my coffee in a minute and report back. I had it as a hot chocolate last night, and with cereal this morning.

No money has entered my account, so I will just have to be housebound and spending-free until Monday.

Happy November! Hope nothing too spooky happened around your areas.  Lots of people complaining on the local community fakebook page about hoodlums nicking little kids' pumpkins when they went out on their 'pumpkin spotting' walks. Very sad little people. 

Today I am knackered,  as the house opposite decided to have a gathering of drunk people who felt the need to argue on the pavement hourly.  Not sure there were only 6 of them, but was not getting out of my nice warm bed at 2am, then 3am, or at 4am.  Drunk angry people can stay away from me.  Not impressed.

House of Swede were here and gone by 8am. The two other golden thrones were assembled. They look fab. The whole room looks different.  Not sure the kids have noticed. None of them have mentioned anything.  The star does not fit! DH says he can lengthen the wire on the ceiling for me, but I want him to have a little bit more movement in his shoulder first before standing on a ladder with his arms over his head playing with the 'leccy bits.  

There is still  only £5 in my bank account. They cannot cope with a direct debit on weekends.  Shameful!  DH's bank can't even cope with an in-house mortgage payment from his current account.  What year are we living in again? Does the computer know it is Sunday and work differently? No, it does it because it is told to.

I am taking the kids to school tomorrow, doing the volunteering thing - trying to get 8 litres of soy milk before they bring in restrictions, and going to Herr Liddl for their £2.99 rechargeable batteries (AA and AAA ) coming home and making lunch for the 3 of us (#1 still self-isolating as much as possible -  still no symptoms). 

I have posted lots of things on the NotWaste sites, hoping some stuff will leave the house this week.  Booked a collection for the old cooker - in 17 days time!! that was the earliest, so it will have to go and live in the front garden covered by a tarpaulin.  It is hidden by the bush so nobody will complain, and it will get recycled eventually.

So here we all are, in November, about to start another national lockdown...... tiddley pom.
