I've also spotted the lack of mask usage. I feel quite self-conscious wearing mine (homemade by Mother VH) but I figured that even if it's not as effective it can't make things worse."You won't bloom until you're planted" - Graffiti spotted in Newcastle.

When the buses run more 'normally' here, I'll prob wear a hm mask, as it has been mooted that the driver could refuse you if you are not wearing one. And given the abuse that bus drivers down here have suffered, I think that is fine. Tube + trains may require one too - not that I use them much. When shopping, it seems that about half the people have masks / gloves, and that everyone is fine with others wearing/not wearing them. But I have only been to 3 different supermarkets, so probably a very localised thing!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!5

Afternoon all!I did write a post yesterday but it got eaten by a gremlin. So here I am again, DH is being interviewed for some BBC thing in the back room (online) so I can no longer clean stuff as it is too loud. So, this morning all the bedrooms and bathrooms were cleaned and tidied and hoovered, the living room is clean and tidy, and I have these flippin' floorboards to put down in the baywindow. Also cannot be done as hammering will interfere with the recording. So of course all I want to do is get this job done. Will get on with it once the recording is over.I hit the supermarket at 7pm yesterday, so managed to get an obscene amount of ys asparagus, which the kids adore, and salad stuff, and New Y0rk bagels and posh bread. I think everything I bought except my sausages were ys. I do not think I need to buy anything much for the next 10 days or so. So yay!Got a £5
2Sh0p giftcard. in the post from the postbox survey peoples yesterday and I already have £4.50 on another card so £9.50 to spend in the PolarShop on fripperies and nonsense when I need an easy meal to go on a baking tray in the oven. So of course I got my road tax (£150) demand just when I was thinking I was doing very well.I am back! I stripped out the b+q tongue and groove 1990s floor-fix some eedjit stuck in to remedy ,,, probably woodworm with the wrong size of board in the wrong type of wood. I have cut 80% of my January? February? skip raided raided floorboards, to size, and angled it - we have a \_/ shaped bay window so each of the 12 floorboards needs either a \ shaped cut or a / shaped cut, and of course there are no floorboards long enough to span the whole bay, so they all need cutting to fit a joist. All good fun, need to make about 4 more cuts and then bang the nails in. Thinking about it, starting after 3pm was probably not the sanest thing to do. Anyway, I decided I was done for the night at 7pm. Tidied up and hoovered, and then found out the main upstairs bathroom's loo is leaking - slowly but still arrrrrgggh!. So we have turned off the cold water to the cistern ( which happens to do the tap as well- grrrr!) and we will sort it out tomorrow - it will mean dismantling the whole cupboard unit-y thing and worktop. They have 2 other loos to choose from. What is it with flippin bathrooms this week?Anyway, I think I might be able to sand the floorboards down and stain them, we are still living with the world's ugliest inherited carpet in the living room, so anything would be better really. Lockdown DIY has started. Tomorrow that job can just fall off the list. B4stard toilet cistern though!I was 12.7 this morning, and I am aiming for 12.4 as soon as possible as that will be 2 stone gone.Right now however, I am totally utterly physically knackered - not sure how many calories you burn using a handsaw, but I was out of breath and quite sweaty for a good couple of hours. Plus the whole house hoovering and floor washings. Masses of salad eaten. Masses of asparagus as well. Menus planned. I know what I am doing. I just need to get on with it.Thank all the gods and goddesses for my list-making skills. I am knackered now. Goodnight!

I watch a lot of BBC - it's always on in the background - so I'm now wondering if I have watch Mr F on the telly and not even realised.
Hope the loo is ok f0xh0les - I'm really feeling your pain there, but am jealous that you have other bathroom options. Alas, I do not.

Haha! No, dh is doing some BBC philosophy/history podcast thing. They were really helpful to him when he was doing his MA and PhD so he is a bit weirded out being interviewed for one by one of his ' tv heroes'. They want him back on when he has written his book (the book he has been talking about for a-g-e-s, so maybe he will get his finger out now. Having said that, late on Monday afternoon he picked up two BA dissertations that need to be marked by Friday, that the person who is supposed to be first marking them has now said they can't do. So he is a right Stressy-Bessy now. He is in another meeting now so I can't finish off my job. I have a leak on the radiator where I am laying the last floorboard, and I am short less than a foot of floorboard. So I am going to cobble together the 20cm or so of floorboard I need out of 3 triangle offcuts and a bit of wooden dowling, and if necessary I will stick a plant pot on it if the floor gets sanded.I just found a bit of board pretty much the right size when I moved the sofa (the swine was hiding from me), will still need a wooden dowl but will look fine once done.I have the strangest muscle spasm pains from getting into hugely un-natural positions with a saw, and so today has been punctuated with cries of Ow! My Buttocks! and similar. I am using muscles I have not used in a while!DH went off for his Ultrasound, which found nothing, so now he has to wait for an MRI - the GP is ringing him on Thursday. He is jacked up on Panadol and Ibuprofen and smells funny with his rub-on medicine and neoprene shoulder harness (£90 quid!!!!) so he smells like a cross between a mentholated wetsuit and talcum powder . Bit of a niche scent, it would not sell.DS3 is in the living room communing with David Attenborough. Watching stoats and weasels being gits to each other. He is hoping I will let him hammer in a nail if he badgers me for long enough. Sadly he did not want to hoover up the sawdust. No cleaning, no (Stop!) Hammertime! He can't touch this.Grey rainy type of day here, no progress on the toilet front. It is not urgent, it will get sorted after the dissertations and leaking radiator and floorboards are finished. I will go and look at toilets and wash basins after volunteering tomorrow. See if I can find something that will do for now, and be reuseable when we get on with the remodelling.I have enough money saved to a) replace the roof b) split the (huge) bathroom into two shower rooms (one with a bath tub in it as well as a shower) c)replace all the beds that need replacing d) carpet the house e) make a huge storage space out of a roof space above the bathroom that could be accessed from the top floor stairwell return - could possibly make a small room out of it. That would pretty much finish the top two floors, leaving just the ground floor to be fixed. But it is all academic, as the builders are happy to work on empty houses, but will not work in ones where people are living. Which I can totally understand. So I am stuck with my leaky bits and a bucket in the roofspace to catch the leaky rain where one stupid slate has slipped.I might actually do the lottery this week. I have a couple of quid knocking about in my pocket.Still 12.74/10/25Three Years Mortgage Free Yay!

The floorboards are down, the carpet replaced, all hoovered up, the sofa is no longer listing, the floor is straight. Good job me! Hopefully this will end the draught. I have taken away the hidden blanket and draught sausage from that corner. One of the plastic insert things that hold up fridge shelves broke, so dh used some of his thermoplastic granules and made a new shelf holder - it isn't pretty, but it works. Why is everything breaking this week??????Supper tonight, as requested by 2 kids, is sandwiches (my kids are odd). DH made a lovely Chinese for lunch, so they have had a mass of vegetables and a hot meal already. I will have a Greek salad I think. I want to be 12.6 tomorrow.DS1 has had a letter from school telling him he will be able to go in for 'subject clinics' (how very laboratorial!) from 15th June. He will have a 20 minute interview and the subsequent clinics will be short enough that they will not need to use the toilet facilities (????????). So there. Clear as mud. Thanks a million.Right, a spot of sewing before the GB Sewing Bee I think. Tonight it is International Week. Should be a laugh.4/10/25Three Years Mortgage Free Yay!
