You're seriously saying there's no general wear and tear exclusion on this warranty? Sorry, but I don't believe you.

Oh, wait - there it is, clause 2.2

    Well, there's...

    Does this cover me now?

    It says: !

The battery is designed to last the life of the vehicle. In any case, your battery is warranted for five years. The batteries are much larger than regular car batteries as they need to generate and deliver sufficient voltage to power the car at low-speeds without any support from the petrol engine. Their production does have a small, additional impact on the environment, but this is more than compensated for by the environmental benefits of driving a hybrid car.

They've already said no - but that extended warranty doc includes the complaint procedures, section 9. Good luck. I think you're going to need it...

So the battery has a five year warranty but could last the life of the vehicle, yours has worn out. Its wear and tear so either scrap the car or replace the battery.

So under what circumstances would I be covered for mechanical failure?

Warranty company can say that for anything, its worn out. Battery should last but its failed before, hence why I buy the warranty to protect myself above the 5 years.

Do you know of any motoring ADR companies?

Welcome to the world of warranties, did you expect to win?

Get an independent report to prove its not wear and tear and take them to court.

Try taking it to ADR before you've even tried the warranty's complaints procedure, and you'll get told to go away and come back when you have...

I think I may need to get an independent engineer to look into this.

Not sure how they can define wear & tear if they are built to last.

Of course I will be going to ADR after complaining to them first. Any list of ADRs?

I don't know quite what you think these batteries are made of, to be as immortal as you expect them to be.

They're just a whole shedload of perfectly standard 18650 LiIon cells connected together - similar packaging to an AA - just like a laptop battery.

They're assembled into cell modules, which are then assembled into the entire battery back.

Failure of individual cells is not only expected, it's common. Replacing the entire battery might be Lexus's only solution, but it certainly isn't the actual only one...
