As I said before it took me 6 months to find this house and even then the landlady only agreed to having me because I paid 6 months rent up front, I am not in a position to do that again, I was fortunate at the time that my parents had just sold their house and were able to do this for me, but their circumstances have also changed and that is no longer available.Just a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less!0 -
Looking at the situation from a practical view, do you have the money for a deposit and first months rent on a new place? do you have friends and family who will be able to help you move?
If you have a good relationship with your landlady it might be a good idea to ask her if she will release your deposit early to allow you help you move.0 -
Yeah, pity it's far too late for that on this thread. I expect nothing better of most but G_M's attitude has really shocked me. It is completely at odds with most of his/her other posts I have seen. Usually, G_M is very helpful.
Hang in there, Kim.
I was surprised too as G_M was very helpful to me on another thread.
I'm really disappointed that the number of children I have would determine whether I am considered worthy of someone's time- :(sigh.Just a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less!0 -
I will do my best to find somewhere before it comes to that but without a spare couple of grand to hand for upfront rent/ deposit etc and the fact that out of the now 18 agents I have contacted only 3 are willing to help me its not looking hopefull.

I understand that and I wasn't criticising you, just the idea that you (or anyone) should sit around waiting for council help on being legitimately evicted. It often seems to be a knee-jerk recommendation on this forum, and while we can justifiably criticise the current system which allows landlords so much freedom (I say that as a landlord myself), I don't think putting more strain on overstretched resources where they aren't needed helps anyone.
If you (or anyone) finds themselves in the position where they are needed, then of course they should be used.
Best of luck!0 -
I doubt the council have many (or any) houses big enough for 9 people, or even a b&b. There's a good chance they will offer private rented accommodation instead.
OP, it might be better to find a house yourself, if you can, as the council's choice might not be as good.0 -

I know it used to be the case with council properties, many moons ago, that if you made improvements, you could ask to be reimbursed when you left. I don't know if that is at all the case with privately rented places in these times. Some LL's even deduct from deposits for the crime of doing maintenance they should have done themselves, from what you read on here.
One thing I am fairly sure about, which I learned from G_M, is what has already been said by the helpful minority on here: She cannot just get you out without going through a whole procedure and, if you do not just go when she says, she will have to go to court. I don't know if it comes down to perceived need but if so, would have thought yours would be greater than her daughter's, unless she's just given birth to triplets!0 -

tbh, if the LL didn't know about it, they could actually demand it be reinstated to its original state. Hopefully the OP has used the same colour (magnolia?!) and not papered or painted it or changed things like carpets. I don't think they'd be too impressed if the OP tried to claim money for work if the LL didn't know they were doing it! Obviously also all dependent on what their lease says.
Good luck!
