Why?
There are people being evicted today, and tomorrow and... You still have a perfectly valid tenancy until you are legally evicted. You aren't homeless.
The council needs to help those people today.
They will help you when the time comes. It may be a b&b to start with, or other temporary housing, but there are clear guidelines on when you will have secure social housing.
I'm not being ungrateful, I'm just curious as to why they don't house once they know someone is going to be made homeless rather than when they actually are.Just a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less!0 -
I guess I thought once you were served with notice they would have a duty rather than it costing the money and time of going to court etc.

Lack of housing and too many applicants to be honest.
If you can keep someone at home for 4-5 months then someone else can get help immediately.
+ not all evictions go as planned. LLs make mistakes - council gets more time0 -
Deannatrois is a good forum member to chat to about repossession. She and her boys went through it last year; it was tough for them, but they got put in a maisonette she's been bringing up to scratch since then.Mortgage

Can I just check that your deposit has been protected and you have received the correct prescribed information about it?
As already stated your landlady has to issue you with a Section 21 notice.
When she does so then come back here and we can check that it has been issued correctly.
If the deposit hasn't been protected or you haven't been issued with the prescribed information then the Section 21 will be invalid.
These are all potential delaying tactics to give you a chance to have your baby and get more time. (When's the baby due?)
Even when the landlady goes to court for an eviction order there is a chance that you would be granted some extra time because of the new baby.
So, hopefully you will have a number of months before you have to leave.
As soon as you have your section 21 go to the council and register as homeless. Since you have dependent children then you have a priority need as regards being offered temporary housing. They may ask you to wait for the eviction order or the bailiffs order. Councils vary.
The council will have to give you a written decision on your homeless application.
It is possible that you would be offered B&B accommodation but it does depend on the availability of accommodation. They could offer you privately rented accommodation.
Unfortunately, this may mean that it may not be very nice or may not be in the area that you want.
As frustrating as it is the best option is to find your own accommodation. It is probable you will have a longer time frame to achieve this.
Letting agents are not always the best option in your circumstances unless your current one is amenable.
Search the local newspapers, look in shop windows, ask family, friends, work colleagues. Any chance of the fathers helping you find somewhere?
I have read your diary on the debtfree wannabe board so have a lot of sympathy for your position.
Keep us updated and the very best of luck especially with the imminent birth!0 -

I've got plenty of time, I just went into panic mode this morning- from the shock I think as I was expecting to be here for years and wouldn't have decorated etc if I thought we would be moving so soon. What a complete waste of my time and money- oh well.Just a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less!0 -

Is it?
I would have thought getting council accommodation would be the best thing for the OP & her family - she can settle then & stop having to move.0 -

But council accommodation is for those who need it, i.e. those who can't find their own for whatever reason. If OP winds up falling into that category then fair enough, but I would have thought she should at least try to help herself before expecting the council to do it, no?0 -

IF the council are insisting that you go through the whole eviction process, then you need to keep your LL/agent in the loop - to prevent it becoming personal.
Yeah, pity it's far too late for that on this thread. I expect nothing better of most but G_M's attitude has really shocked me. It is completely at odds with most of his/her other posts I have seen. Usually, G_M is very helpful.
Hang in there, Kim.0
