i can simpathise, same things going on at RM.
they dont want to offer volutary redundancy and are trying to change the VR payment structure to cut the payments amounts drastically.
doesnt affect me as im fairly new but guys with 20-30 years under their belt are suffering.
seems the way now to push people out and save the money

If the organisation is outsourcing to India then in time all UK jobs in that department will go. Any that have not gone through natural wastage will then be redundant.

    You need to consider:
    • That may be some time away
    • What your redundancy entitlement would be (is it really worth hanging on for)
    • In the meantime the company will stop investing in developing it's remaining UK staff with your skills. Ensure you do not/get out of date/become less marketable when they want to move
If you are claiming you are offsick, being paid by your primary employer but working elsewhere (even for yourself) this is fraud. In my organisation we would discipline you. The outcome would be dismissal without notice. It is possible for us to prosecute .

Only you can decide. Materially you have achieved a lot so far.

What price self respect and your reputation? Think about it.

If Directors offered themselves redundancy and other directors got a pay rise equivalent to 8% and you got 0% would you think this was fair?? If other directors who had been there less that 18 months got pay offs of over 1 million and you had been there 10 years and got zero, would you think this fair??

No one ever said it was fair, but it is a fact of life. Get over it.

And if they do dismiss me for gross misconduct - so be it - life will go on.

That is not attitude of someone who is stressed.

You are quite clearly trying to play the system. I hope you are never in a position where you are truely stressed or depressed. If you had been maybe you would not have this deplorable attitude.

As I said earlier, I hope that your GP sees you for what you really are and refuses to sign you off.

Another fact of life is that people will who aren't 'looked after' in work will go off with stress related illnesses - fact. So you get over it.

I cannot argue with anything you have said. A lot of the work I do is related to research and therefore will not actually earn anything until these particular projects are complete, so I'm not actually earning. Call it a hobby if you like. The bottom line is I can do certain things, I am just not upto going into work. It is like somebody having a broken leg and not being able to do a job stacking shelves. Just because somebody is off sick, doesn't mean they are refined to bed.

I will be writing a letter to work asking for some kind of compromise. That way they could pay me something for us both to terminate my contract.

Stebiz, you are not stressed, you just don't like your job. There is a huge difference.

I still don't understand why you feel the need to be in employment when your self employed ventures are clearly already so successful?

Not true. If you asked my wife what I was like when I collapsed through stress after returning home from work and being refined to bed for a few days, you would know exactly what I mean. If you asked my wife why I was awake all night (until I took medication) then that would tell you. This company has some obligation. I don't want to go back. But I don't think they should get away with it. If I had been physically disabled at work I'd be paid off right away. However the fact it had turned me into an immotional wreck seems to hold no sway. Can I just say again 'I am not well' - okay I'm not stuck in bed all day but most stressed/depressed people are. I have spoken to my doctor and his advise was 'to sort something out elsewhere'. He said he would sign me off until I felt 100% okay. If not he knows that going back to work will just send me back to square one.

I was planning to go self employed again at some time in the future. However there is clearly a way of doing it. If my company had been fair - cost of living wage increases, less demanding, better working conditions, it is unlikely I would have had to go off sick. I would have been able to do my job and give relevant notice in due course. However they haven't!! They have been unfair. When you know your hands are tied that really does stress you out. Being humiliated by having to ask to go to the toilet, that stresses you out. Having all your shifts changed at no notice (the contract says they don't have to) so you can't plan ahead. That is unfair!! This is when you know it is time to leave. But should I be fair??
