I want to be made redundant!!!

I have worked for a large company for 10 years. At first things were great but over the last few years we have been 'sold' four times. The latest employer is now shifting all the jobs to India but does not want to pay any redundancy.
They are making life hell. Sacking people for the most trivial things. Have just made all those redundant who have been there less than 12 months (hence no redundancy pay). Given no wage increase (even a cost of living) for 4 years years now and have been told there will not be one in the future.
Many staff take revenge by taking loads of time of sick with stress. I too suffer from stress, related to work. Can I use this as a 'tool' to make me redundant?? Are there any other options open other than leaving and playing right into their hands. I'd be happy with just a few thousand pay off. I plan to work from home in the future.
Thanks

You don't work for VirginMedia by any chance do you? (I do). They've just announced outsourcing the business customer service call centre to India. This is a regular occurence here at VM. The axeman always comes around at this time of year, puts everyone on 90 day notice thereby ensuring they are out of a job just in time for christmas.
I've been here for ten years and keep my fingers crossed every year but they always keep me!!!!0 -
First of all let me say I sympathize with your situation and would hope that things improve. However I have noticed a number of posts on the forum where people "want to be made redundant". When someone is made redundant it means, that job then no longer exists, in the case of voluntary redundancy it means you are selling the right for you or anyone else to do that particular job. I know people, and indeed there are people even now reading this forum, who would give their right arm for a job, any job. For someone to sell a job when people are desperate for work is truly sickening.
If you are not happy in your work either make the best of it until something better comes along or hand in your notice and at least leave the job available for someone who will be more than happy to do it.0 -

I accept your comments but do not agree with them. If I hand in my notice this job will not be offered to somebody else in the UK - FACT. It will be offered to somebody in India. The same dept. in India is getting approx 20% of my wage. I helped build this company (okay I got paid for it) into the company it is today. The fat cats are trying to get fatter and one of the LITTLE KITTENS would like a bit of cream. As for being truly sickening to sell a job - there are loads out there, if you want to work. Now if you want to be choosy that is a different matter.

Not so - companies often use voluntary redundancy to get rid of staff during a down turn & then rerecruit on the upturn. It's also used to reorganise & get rid of "dead wood" to aoid the hassle of compulsary redundancy0 -
Well - your employer is "playing dirty" - no cost-of-living rise for 4 years to date, etc.
In my book - that means you are entitled to do the same. Is it possible to start working from home now - and get the time to do so by being off work "sick"? Would help you get a headstart for when they finally get honest and make some people redundant.0 -

the job doesn't have to no longer exist. It's the job title that doesn't exist.
where i work they made all team managers redundant and could re-apply for a new role as 'team leader'. This, i'm pretty sure, was a dead wood clearing exercise. They got rid of the ones they didn't want to keep and employed the ones they did want to keep as team leaders. Couple of years later the role had a name change back to team manager.0 -

In my book that means the same. Thanks for your view, I didn't want to think I was being unreasonable. I am setting myself up and would never work for anybody else again after this experience. It will be self employment in future for me. Cheers.

Or it could mean your wages are already higher than equivalent roles in or out the company and they have been frozen until their back in line
Frankly if you want to quit, quit but your not entitled to be paid off just because you want to leave and if your voluntary offer was turned down either live with it or quit0 -

Or I could get my sick pay for 3 months of the year like most do in our place due to the stress we are put under and top Executives in the company offering themselves huge pay increases and others leaving with huge pay offs.
I understand your view and to an extent you may be correct. Equivalent roles in INDIA are getting substantially less. I don't think we'll agree on this but feel that staying off 10% to 20% of the year equates to a nice increase in my wages each year. Over the 4 years that is just what I should have got anyway.
I will leave when I have sorted myself out.
