The potatoes are wonderful - proper ones with dirt on! The variety is called Wilja which I haven't heard of before but they are very nice indeed.
And I got the world's biggest parsnip! Certainly the biggest I've ever seen anyway.quote

Elsiepac love your description, proper ones with dirt on, its the best way to buy them as they store for much longer. Wilja is very popular round here as its grow locally. I get a 25kg sack for a fiver, from a farm shop and it lasts me for months.

Wow Wow Wow to the veg box, excellent value and looks so good.

It's going to be a spend day, I finished my Marmite yesterday  going to w8rose as they seem to be the only ones to stock the 500g jar.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

And there goes my monthly budget... :(

Spent £35.67 on the weekly shop this week taking us to £148.36/£140 and I think I'll need to buy more milk after unexpected visitors drank gallons of tea yesterday!

So, looks like about £10 over budget for the month (ends this weekend for us) which isn't too bad for a first go and beats the £200 spend last month. Also, had it not been for visitors this weekend and buying 2 bottles of wine for £8.50 and snacks we wouldn't buy normally, we'd have made it :) The wine also hasn't been drunk so that is a little annoying. Hey-ho.

Will update again at the end of the month with my grand total.

Hope everyone else finishes of in the green! :)

I would put the wine away for Christmas and not count it I this months budget, then you`ve made it lol. I think you have done very well for a first try.

Thanks for everyone's advice. This is hopefully my last update before my new month begins on Friday - famous last words!
Funny story on the ongoing loo roll saga - bought a pack of 4 last week ready for next time I ran out. Ran out yesterday, spent all morning looking for them, convinced I was either going mad or had used 4 rolls in 3 days!!!!!!! Bought a pack of 9 last night (my local Mr T express I discovered does a 9 pack for £2! 4 pack is £1.84! Amazing what you see when you open your eyes!) - anyway got home and still convinced I was losing my marbles I had another look and found the pack of 4 on the airing cupboard shelf where I always keep them. Admittedly it was partially hidden but considering I checked there at least 4 times it's no excuse!! anyway, at least I now have enough loo roll for a long time now!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I still have veg left over from last weeks box but I think I will get another one tomorrow as there's going to be different bits in it (I'm also going to ask if he can sub the potatoes as it was a 2.5 kg bag and I've used 2 of them!) and then I'm totally stocked up again ready for my new month.

meg The veg box people also do a 25kg bag of potatoes for £8.50 but I'll never get through them!! Or I'll eat them all the time because I do love potatoes but they don't like my weight loss attempts!!

  • Managed to do my third and last food shop for November this morning and have just over £19 odd left in my food purse.very pleased with Novembers' totals and have more than enough food to get me through until the end of the month and my freezer is slowly going down.

By the way Iceland have 6 large navelina oranges for £1.50 on special off at the moment, along with packs of 8 Richmond thick sausages for 50p. Bangers are fine for my DGS to wolf down during the Christmas holiday break,or to de-skin and use sausage meat for scotch eggs or sausage rolls

My favourite bangers are the pork and leek ones from Asda, but I don't buy them often as the shops not really anywhere near where I go as a rule.

Went to Asbo to buy Christmas presents. I wanted a pressure cooker for my niece but they didn't have the one I wanted. I got the other things on my list and a few bits to go in my food bank donation box. Then picked up
a YS loaf for 22p as I have been fancing toast for a couple of days.

On checking my receipt, I always do, found I had been charged 1.28 for the loaf ekkkkk. went to customer service for my refund and a £2.00 gift card for being overcharged.

Delighted got my loaf and a profit, Used the gift card to buy 8 packs of cheese and broccoli pasta sauce to put in the food bank box.

Got the pressure cooker I wanted in Poundland, £10 cheaper than Asbo, so a great shopping day for me today.

Gosh, a finished marmite jar - I remember scraping the inside for literally weeks until I used almost boiling water to rinse out the last vestiges of flavour for a stew last time I bought a proper glass jar! Got to love it :T

    Evening:)

Lidl this morning to get the weeks food and then I popped into Morrisons for a bulk buy of sausages and picked up some YS veg in there.

I had decided to borrow lynnejk's bulk buy fund idea, so withdrew £100 and bought the sausages (3 for £10) and typhoo teabags from Lidl (440 bags for £3.49 - bought 3 packs...should last a while)

Budget is looking quite healthy still and the cupboards etc are full. Hoping to only need possibly milk/salad/bread for the rest of the month. All money leftover from challenge will go into bulk buy fund, so hoping to be able to do a big meat order next month - or January with the cash saved:) Hoping for another 5 or 6 NSD's before the end of the month.

    Spends so far:

    1st - Tesco - £44.18
    2nd - Lidl - £35.45
    3rd - Sainsburys - £8.70 Tesco - £51.67
    4th - NSD
    5th - NSD
    6th - Lidl - £17.97 Sainsburys - £7.94
    7th - NSD
    8th - One Stop - £1.00 One Stop - £1.30
    9th - NSD
    10th - Lidl - £20.83 Tesco - £5.68
    11th - NSD
    12th - NSD
    13th - Lidl - £11.58
    14th - NSD
    15th - NSD
    16th - Lidl - £26.05 Tesco - £17.51
    17th - NSD
    18th - NSD
    19th - NSD
    20th - NSD
    21st - Tesco - £13.98
    22nd - Lidl - £61.51 Morrisons - £0.75

    So total spend so far : £326.10/£400 (£73.90 remaining) and 12 NSD's
    November NSD's - 7
