  • Another 2 NSD's for me. How I stay on track is to make up meals from stuff I have in (like others have said). I will say I'm not gonna shop until Tuesday and try to stick to that by meal planning with what I have in. I have a ton of veg, so some will be roasted and some made into stew, curries or soup for the freezer. On Tuesday, I pass Sainsbury's when they have reduced their bread, so always buy their rolls for pennies, these do breakfasts/lunches or even evening meals with soup, when I can't be asked. I have run out of houmous, so im gonna make some with a tin of chickpeas I have and some peanut butter (instead of tahini). I found when I used to hunt Y/S, I ended up with a load of 'crap food', cakes etc., so I really don't bother with it too much now, though always take a look. Anyway, have a lovely w/e everyone.

Thanks to all for the useful posts and advice. I've done another few small spends this week taking our total to £242 /260. Only another week till payday so that leaves £18 but we don't need much urgently. Running low on quite a few household things so I think I'll need to do a biggish shop in the next ten days.

I like the idea of a 13 month strategy with the extra months' budget used for stocking up, bulk buys and Christmas food. I might try that in 2017.

26.48 in Aldy and 9.86 top up through the week so 93.01/150.
  • £77.50 spent, mostly at the market this morning but also £2 at £land as they had something back in that I like to have a small stash of - the pink rock salt. Still think I should be able to squeak in on or just under budget, but really, really looking forward to next month when we will go down to 4 mouths to feed! Most of the time, anyway... come to think of it, DS3 will be home for a fair bit of December. So, 5...

  • NSD for me today.

Will have to get bread tomorrow. The boy has been gobbling all the bread lately and he had lunch at home today. Flu jab (spray) made him throw up everywhere at school, quite spectacularly so I am told, including on another child, but not a drop on himself! So he's been eating me out of house and home since. Then he was messing with his dinner and my mum started spoon feeding him.... He's 5! Anyway, it is only bread we need, and he has a party tomorrow, so if I can go then we will only buy bread! It's definitely just the spray and not a bug that caused the sickness, but I will check with the host it's ok to come.
Also had a call from Mr T to say my direct order still hasn't arrived, called the direct offices who insist it is there, the store insist it's in yeovil. So they are resending the order and posting it express for free, it's just Christmas gifts (I like a head start) so there was no rush really.

A portion of casserole left in the fridge, but we'll have to think of dinner as our weekend plans have changed, but there's stores in the freezer we can work through. Maybe seafood spaghetti...

then when cold, I make a pie with the remainder and add frozen veg if necessary to fill the little pie-dish - lots of eking out extensions.

that is why I keep a month 13 budget that I use for stores and Christmas, because otherwise I use all of this month's budget on stocking up for Justin Case (damn him!).
Both great ideas. will start a new plan in the new year
Do I need it or just want it.

Lunch and dinner out today, but not from grocery budget so not counting it in the challenge. Lunch was a few bits and pieces of deli salads while out all day, dinner was a charity meal where each participant gave £10 for the dinner, prepared and served by a caterer who donated all work and food, and the total pot went to one of 6 small local charities who did a presentation, we had to vote. Very enjoyable evening for a very good cause.

    Good night.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Evening all

Spends today at Morrys of £24.92, so just over half monthly budget gone. My NSDs are just for the grocery budget as well, as everything else has it's own budget.

Hope you all have a super weekend

    nsd yesterday, yippee!! xx
  • Had to pick up bread, cereal etc - the boy's given it a pounding. Stocked up the loo roll too. Came to £8.35. I don't like doing little shops if I can help it.
Realised with other budgets that school is a bigger drain than I realised and birthday party invites (annoyingly he couldn't make this one after being sick yesterday and the next one is for a girly girl so couldn't pass the gift along).

    £114.34/200.
