Have been in aldi counting the apples, rich tea biscuits and slices of bread in the packets to see how far they stretch!!!
Thanks again
Do you have shops near you where you can walk to them at the end of the day? I get most of my veg by going to a MrT local. They seem to struggle to sell the fruit and veg there so I get to stock up on it for pennies.
Between that and the L!dl and A!di offers we can eat for pennies.
Home B has chick peas at 23p for a 400g tin. I make a huge chick pea and potato curry with them and chick pea burgers. I buy Maysan curry sauce paste as it lasts ages for just £1.25p and that is vegan although it only says vegetarian on the packet. I tweeted them when I had a vegan friend coming for dinner.
I also buy the 89p living salad trays in L!dl, plant them in to a big container and watch them grow, they give me around 3-4 weeks worth that way.

ahh thank you lovely, they are the same price per kilo as tesco, I'm wondering if it would be better value to get large bananas and halve them rather than get small ones.....
Soworried, lovely to see you, thank you for replying, thats amazing, going to google HB in a minute and see if we have one, I'm not sure we do, but that would save me £1.20 a month! which would buy me a lot more things!!
And omg, living salad trays!! why haven't I heard of these before! that sounds like a good plan, the children would love cutting them for dinner. I should really get my seeds out and plant some, but I've never had too much success with growing salad:(
ETA: just checked online, and I literally drive past a Home bargains at least twice a month!!!!! Thank you!!!!! i can't tell you how much I appreciate all of your wonderful help and advice. I'll stop hijacking the thread now, sorry.0 -
Missymoo81 you aren't hijacking the thread! I've learnt two new things because of your questions, and I'm sure others will too! I'll be buying chick peas in hb and living salad in leedl from now on!
So worried thank you! Turns out I've been really poorly with glandular fever for the last two years - no wonder I always felt pants! Onwards and upwards, as they say!
DD had a friend for a sleepover last night, and they wanted bacon sarnies for brekkie. DS not a fan, so he had a honey sandwich, one of his faves! Lunch will be something small as bfast was so late, and now D's is trying to persuade me that her friend can stay for dinner! I don't mind, as it's so good to see her socialising (long story!), and she wants to make her fave dinner which will cost £1.20 tops for the 3 of them! Don't judge - I was ill when I first have them these, now it's dd's fave, tinned meatballs in tom sauce with spaghetti and grated cheese! We sometimes make real meatballs, but she much prefers tinned . Oh well!

Frugal 2018 needed! Saving and NOT spending0 -
Please could I join in?
I have dipped in and out of these challenges, but with a reduction in my working hours I need to keep a tight reign on the spending.
We are a family of 4 and I would like to come in under £350, this will include all groceries, toiletries and the occasional school dinner payment.
I spent £109.25 yesterday, this was an exceptionally big shop as we have just come home from our summer holiday and I had been running the cupboards, fridge and freezer down. They are all now suitably restocked ready for me to spending some time tonight meal planning for the month of September. Any loose change left over at the end of the month will go into the saving pot for next years holiday :j0 -
Spent £48.34 today on groceries for our first week of September. Went armed with my list but still chucked a few other bits in, some needed that I had just forgotten about (toilet rolls, etc!) but a few treats that probably didn't need to end up in the trolley. Must get better at that, but that's why I'm here and I'm feeling optomistic that we will stick to our budget for this week... fingers crossed!
Realised we have ran out of chicken breasts though so will need to buy a bulk of them this month... guess I should try and do that in my monthly budget but feel like it's more realistically going to end up on top of that!- [STRIKE]Credit Card: £2,989 / £2,989[/STRIKE]
- Bank Loan: £12,000 / £14,000

£1.29 was spent on milk today. Technically only £34.87 remains of the restricted budget. I think it is achievable but will be another tight month like last month.Debt Free Stage 1 - Completed 27/08/2020

Hello :-) Can I join in again please. I seem to of drifted far far away!
Can I be put down for £400 please and that's for 2 adults and 3 children. We homeschool them so they eat all day long LOL. We also have a cat and she's included in our budget! I'd like to bring the budget down but have started to buy bits ready for Christmas!
My month will run from the 1st please.
Thanks so much. It feels good to be back. I'm off to look at some recipes for snack bars etc. Looking forward to soup season too!Mortgage as of 01/01/25 £67,176.08

Havent done the grocery challenge for a while but feel that my DS at almost 8 is pushing up my costs now he eats more so I am keen to at least track how much I am genuinely spending. I will aim for £300 please.
