  • He also was true to his principles, a voice of the people, a vegetarian and teetotal, like Corbyn.

    And a national socialist.

Mrs T at least showed that drive and commitment could get you places from humble beginnings. A totally different background to Corbyn who was privileged enough to go to a fee paying junior school. Nor completed his degree course. ;)

Yes, we should all admire Margaret Thatcher, coming from being a grocer's daughter to the first female PM in Britain. The family lived in the flat above her father's grocery shop and she won a scholarship to Grammar School ( a route denied to many bright children today, and obliterated altogether if Corbyn gets his way), she took advantage of the opportunity to get a good education, thence on to Oxbridge and got a Chemistry degree. She then had to work hard against the prejudices of the day to get to be an MP, let alone leader.

There is a lot we can learn from her.

(One thing I thought rather nice, from the Wikipedia entry - she was apparently much more proud of being the first PM with a Science degree, than of being the first female PM :) - oh and that's something else the Tories have done -twice - which all-inclusive Labour hasn't).

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

The left don't like ladders of opportunity that you can climb, where how high you climb depends on your ability, determination, and merit.

They prefer ropes by which they can pull people up, at the same rate, with the same problems, regardless of your own ability, determination or merit. Ropes which they control, making you dependent on them.
  • Hilariously, Scottish voters prefer May to Corbyn by a margin of 55% and over the Scottish Labour leader by 30%:

That's how popular Yeremiy actually is.

I cannot wait to hear from Toastie which seats Khorbiyn is going to win in 2020 when he gets his majority. Assuming he wins back say 50 Scotish seats and 50 in England and Wales, that would give him a majority. So what will Yeremiy's message be to the voters of Glasgow and of Worcester? "Vote Labour because I f~cking hate you"?

You have been very fortunate to have been elevated to a privileged position where you have been able to pay eye watering amounts of tax while other people line up at food banks.

Yes I do feel quite proud when I look at the amount of tax I pay tbh. It feels good to know I've made a real contribution to society. But I don't feel like I should be paying more and actually feel that 40% should be the top rate of tax in a civilized society.
Its now time for you to pay back.

By 2020 I'll be 58 - I'll be nearing retirement and I don't expect the LP to win in 2020. Tbh it wouldn't surprise me if I ever see another Labour government in my life time. Though I do expect a centre left party to emerge - not sure where from yet.

More right wing ranting. The police shouldn't, and don't, have a shoot first policy. This has been the same in the UK for as long as there has been armed response police units. Throughout the Troubles, 9/11 and 7/7.

No police commissioner ever has asked for a shoot first policy. It was a concoction of the Daily Mail and Cameron's weedling for populist kudos of the hard of thinking.

Looks like it worked on someone.

I know the police don't have a shoot first policy....so why did Corbyn raise it as a response? that was my point....he doesn't have the capacity to respond in a logical way to pressure! His response to the Brexit vote the following morning was to call for article 50 to be invoked immediately.....without any negotiations taking place?????...why would we do that?

I realise it's hard having a debate when they are coming at you from all sides....but there again you did start the thread Rugged:).....still waiting to hear what the strategy is to win the next election though?

the Tories are never going to raise tax on high earners.

So handing over half my earnings isn't enough? Exactly how much is enough - are you like those mad French with their 75% tax rates ?

How many Brits do you think there are that can pay these extra taxes? I'll tell you - not enough to pay for Corbyn's wish list.

Indicative of the lack of popular support for Corbyn's Labour.

When Labour voters of 30 years are on here telling you you're getting it wrong you should probably sit up and take heed.

Perhaps while you are doling our education today you might spare a thought for the poorest GCSE students denied the opportunity of a 6th Form education due to your government's removal of the hardship grants, and those HE students from the poorest families who are denied the same.

    Good day.

All very worthy things - when you can afford them. Where do you propose taking the money from to pay for this project? The NHS? Benefits?

I wonder how Labour voters can sleep knowing that their party created a deficit so big that it will take a minimum of 15 years to clear .....and now all they do is complain about "tory" austerity - you couldn't make it up.
I don't accept labour created the deficit . The bankers did with their speculating casino greed laden activities!
