just thought I give toxic toastie an opportunity to explain why children that go to well funded schools in trot dominated councils, perform so much more poorly than in schools where the emphasis is on reading and writing and doing some maths
but as usual, he flunked it although he didn't mention neoliberalism or his hatred of this parents and their generation.0 -
You learn something new everyday I though all schools taught reading, writing and maths not just the ones it Tory controlled areas.
learning is a life long process, so that probably why trot areas don't bother about it for the impresssionable young
however I would be interested in alternative explanations of why the children of poorer parents attain lower educational levels than those of richer parents.0 -

Sorry Claptrap, but the National Curriculum is taught identically in all schools and funding is given to LEA's by central government.
As usual, D minus and Poor for effort. Must try (much) harder.0 -
I think that you are kidding yourself, twenty years on I see:
Joe: I have just been sacked, no warning, just sacked after 10 years service.
RT: That is terrible, I actively opposed that law in 2021 and fought hard to stop the Tories winning in 2020. Corbyn would never of done that........
Joe: Corbyn? Who is he? Labour has only got 30 seats what can they do? I am interest in now in 2027.
RT: Well we can campaign for fairer laws and Labour can win in 2030....
Joe: But Corbyn was supposed to stop them doing things in 2020, after the Tories repealed the Human Rights Act and swept aside all that employment law with the other regulalations. You were supposed to stop it in 2025 when the NHS was finally privatised and you started having to pay £50 to see a GP.
RT: But next time our new glorious leader will repeal this pernicious law and restore the NHS to its former glory........
Joe: Why did you not win in 2020 or 2025? Why will 2030 be any different?
RT: The party was reforming, we were having to deselect all those Blairite MPs.....
Joe: Blair? My dad says he won three elections and and made a difference to people like me with all that employment legislation. I want someone to speak for me and make a difference not someone who is making the party great again. I don't give a f*** about the party.....you let us down in 2020 and 2025.
I hope by then you are still looking him in the eye
That is a view that has been aired before. But if the Blairites take over Labour for good then all those things poor old Joe is complaining about will still happen anyway.0 -
I think Toastie should tell us if he agrees with John Prescott, former Labour deputy PM, that good schools are a "great danger". Yes or no?0

we that leaves the dilemma of whyGrammar schools would be fine if working class children graduated from primary school with the same levels of attainment as their middle class peers, but they don't.
According to toastie the curriculum is taught identically in all schools and of course the funding is higher in poor areas so that seems to leave the possibility that children of poorer people aren't very clever and/or the poorer parents hold their kids back by bad parenting or of course that more funding damages education.
Doesn't seem much to do with the type of schools.
Mind you I'm personally not particularly in favour of grammar school although one does favour diversity in most things.0 -

It is well established that in low income families, parents spend much less time talking to their pre-school children (e.g. Millenium Cohort Study). This creates a significant educational deficit that already exists before school even starts.
The schools simply cannot do enough to reverse this - whoever is in government.
I'm not sure I would say it is down to "bad" parenting; but it is down to parenting.0 -

yes the research does say that but that
doesn't really explain why poorer people spend less time talking/playing with their young children or indeed whether it is the main or only factor:
its not as if it requires money or even a specific educational level.0 -

If a latter day Blair were leading the Labour Party (say someone like David Miliband) I cannot disagree bad things might still happen but Labour would have more chance of being elected and far more undecided, fair minded people would be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

These people don't exist either, apparently.A "family from hell" has been evicted from their riverside property after terrorising a community for more than two decades.
The notorious Skeldon clan, of River View, Saltash, were booted out of their house yesterday (Wednesday, August 10) after being handed an anti-social behaviour order in June.
