The socialist government in France is centre left, similar in tone and action to Blair and Brown. Fairly innocuous, no real progress, no real damage either.
I note the socialist president of France is proposing to tear down the jungle at Calais and deport those who do not claim asylum.
Not a very left wing government after all then....
The simple fact is that socialism has failed and will continue to fail....people are just not made that way, they want better lives for themselves.
Venezuela...all that oil...they should be caked in $$$$$$....yet all that poverty....it's actually a disgrace.0 -
Corbyn Jesuslike according to Guardian:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/belief/2016/sep/29/corbyn-is-an-atheist-but-his-ideas-are-true-to-the-bibleEven so, can it really be so inconceivable that Jeremy Corbyn’s political philosophy is inimical to the British people when he – atheism notwithstanding – is the only one who even approximates to Christian teaching about wealth. After all, Christianity is, like it or not, still the official religion of this country. And the Queen is its head. So you’d think that the Queen would be cheering on Corbyn, encouraging his bold redistributive instincts, and dismissing the Blairites for their fondness for Mammon. For, unlike Peter Mandelson, the Bible is not intensely relaxed about people getting filthy rich.
That's a good point. It's nice to be reminded of the wealth hoarding uncharitable hypocrisy of Middle England, today boiling with righteous indignation that principled John McDonnell refuses to kowtow before the Queen, dripping in her stolen jewels, on his entry to the Privy Council.0 -

In the last GE 70% of people who voted did not vote for Labour and most of those will never vote Labour and now there are a are a large number of people who previously voted Labour will not vote for Corbyn and that includes people like me who have always voted Labour. To make things worse he has now alienated the previous labour voters who voted UKIP in last GE and leave in referendum.0 -

The two Commandments Jesus left us with are:
Matthew 22:37-40 : New International Version (NIV)
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b
Most people take absolutely no notice of the first, the one Jesus said is the greatest, certainly an atheist wouldn't.
As for loving your neighbour as yourself, well the present Labour leadership have great relationships with Israel and the USA don't they?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
But Labour are not going to be elected so it doesn't matter what he thinks apart from the fact that the Tories know this and Can get away with moving towards the right.

Voters who voted UKIP in the last GE are not Labour voters.
It is hard to see any common ground where the modern Labour Party can appeal to Brexit voting Kippers. Or why they would want to.0 -
